The NIP has to be sent to the registered keeper within 14 days of the offence, sent via 1st class post.

Details?

Take care with your licence Tom. 6 points and you are on an automatic re-test but I'm sure you are aware of this.

I got collared by my boss at work today because I was allegedly caught in wales on the first of May in a hire car doing 48 in a 30 and they have only just contacted my work. I have asked my gaffer to find out when they sent the original NIP to the hire car company. If I am reading this right will the NIP be invalid if it got to the hire car company on or after the 15th May?

It would be required to be served on the hire company on or before the 15th May - the day of the offence is not used when computing the 14 days.

If the NIP was served late (and could be proven so) then they have failed to comply with the requirements of S.1 Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. This means there could be no prosecution of the offence to which the NIP applies.

Nice one!
It seems to me that nearly 7 weeks is a bit of a long time from getting the picture taken to contacting me even from darkest Wales. I will definatly be pursueing this.

Not really. The 14 day requirement applies to the first NIP in the chain only. After that, they have upto 6 months from the date of the alleged offence within which to commence proceedings..
