Had a Meeting In Southwark yesterday Afternoon so duly parked up in a side road made sure it wasn't permit parking bought my ticket from the metre and duly went on my way. On the way back afterwards I am in a bit of a rush thinking my ticket ran out about 10 minutes ago and I have a bit of a 50/50 chance over whether I have got a ticket, to turn into the road and see the horror to make you blood turn cold.

Not a Ticket but a Clamp, I checked the stickers and the clamp was put on within 8 minutes of the ticket running out.

Had to pay the barstards to get my car released, however I thought there was some kind of guidelines that were supposed to be followed - I couldn't have complained if I had got a ticket (well I would have but without justification) but to get a clamp that costs me £115 to be released for 8 minutes over (I got there 2 minutes after the clamp went on)

I would like to appeal, has anyone had any success am I likely to have any kind of success?

Has anyone got any advice (other than put more money in the metre obviously)

Ah, you need to know how to make their life hell.

I believe the following to be true:
1. Ask for their SID. If they don't have it no them then they are committing an offence.
2. They have to release your vehicle when you agree to pay the release fee. Now, read that again, when you agree to pay, not when you have paid.
3. Once you have been released, make them chase you for it.

I do remember seeing the law being quoted here somewhere. Anyone have it?

Whilst I haven't got the specific legislation to hand, I thought they had to give a 15 minute period of 'grace' after the ticket had expired ie. they can issue a PCN during this time, but they cannot clamp or tow the vehicle..

This may be of use..

Clamping And Towing

If you break any parking rules you are at risk of your vehicle being towed away or clamped in addition to receiving a parking ticket. Towing, is targeted at vehicles that are causing an obstruction, and clamping at vehicles with a history of non-payment of tickets. You cannot be clamped unless you have overstayed the time paid for by more than fifteen minutes. If you return to your vehicle and find it gone or clamped contact the ALG's free Transport and Environment Committee TRACE Service (020 7747 4747) which can locate the a towed-away vehicle for you or provide details of how to get your vehicle unclamped.

It would be highly tempting to recover your vehicle and take the clamp of without damaging it and take it back to them.

not sure what you drive so your tyres may prohibit this but if you deflate your tyres your rolling radius drops to say 16/17inches and you can remove the clamp with out damaging it, then hand it in to the lost property at the local police station, ring the clamper and tell him where he can pick it up.

I got clamped and told the lad i was going to drop the golf another inch so he couldn't get the clamp over. He said he had a clamp that would pop through the spokes of the alloys. His gaffer then said that he would stop his clamper doing this as he thought 60quid fine didn't justify risking damaging the wheel (I told him my BBS RC's where worth £500 each and that he would have to pay for any damage)

Sadly (actually what I am I saying, not sadly at all) my wheels are 19"'s with about a 35 profile tyre so there is not a lot of difference between inflated size and not and the chain from the clamp went through part of the suspension arm.

Am liking the battery powered angle grinder idea have not been clamped before so have never needed it before.
