Purely hypothetical situation....

A car was traveling up a country lane in the dark at a 'faster than average' speed and came upon a police car pulled up in a lay by, therefore slowing down a bit to pass the police car, but then the police car pulls out and begins to follow said car, albeit at about 100yards.

Now the car driver is a bit worried and speeds up when out of site around corners to get a bit of space between the police car and themselves, then comes a straight of about 200yards with a sharp left hander at the end, said car is approaching left hander as police car appears onto straight, and puts blue lights on. Car gets round left hand bend and fcuks off around the twisties leaving police car for dead. Although blue lights can be seen through hedges every now and then a fair way behind, the police car never has any direct sight of the said car after the straight.

Now then, hypothetically speaking, in the unlikely situation the police had got the number of the car (due to position of car, speed of car and road layout) What would happen to said car driver? Was the police car too far behind to be able to warrant said car stopping as it was not in the way of the progress of the police and the driver didn't think they were after them as they had done nothing wrong for the police to be stopping them?

Cheers.

I doubt they could have taken a speed reading from you due to road circumstances. No proof, no crime. Sleep well and good job! ( to whomever was driving the said car ) LOL

Sorry but the word of the two officers if there was two in the car would be good enough in court.

For what offence?

Certainly not speeding!

same thing happened to me mate in Wales, as a police car was trying to stop me as i went quite quick in the opposite direction to him and i managed to 'loose him' through a park, he did manage to stop me later that day and he was a little 'ratty' to say the least mentioning things like me taking the michael out of S.Wales police etc etc, but didnt actually do much other than shout ! Still too this day i swear i never saw him !

Potentially failing to stop for police. R/K arrested on suspicion of the offence, then having to prove they were not driving.

Marker on vehicle next time it passes ANPR or checked by BIB results in a stop although not the friendly flash of blues kind more likely a get out of the car stop.

Or NFA, Who knows depends on the officer who he made off from.

Pull the other one, it's got bells on. I think your hypothetical friend would be flogging a dead horse with that line of logic.

Did he see them then?? He didn't know police were there.....

I'd rather get pulled doing nothing wrong than get pulled ragging it along a country lane.

Lets just say if that had happened to me I would be admitting to anything on a public internet forum.

Wrong. Two officers can form a view that a vehicle was travelling faster than the limit. Measured speed not required as corroboration - the two officers corroborate each other.

As i said two officers can form a view you was speeding and that would be good enough to be used in court as evidence. If a car is caught speeding then the registered keeper receives the fine or court action. If it was not them driving then they need to provide the name of the driver who was driving at the time.

In the original post, he did see them, he saw the blues and admitted making off so as not to get stopped.

He doesn't have to.

If the Police officers provide evidence to satisfy the court, that'll do.
I'd imagine if he could see them, they could see him.
