I would like to ask the forum for their thoughts on the following!

An old friend of mine had fallen on had times, he was taking his car to his garage when he was involved in accident, the other car only had minor damage to the bumper, at the time his insurance had expired a few days earlier, he offered to repair the car and he gave the driver the name of a local garage that he did repairs for as a reference, on checking with the garage one of the staff overheard the conversation about the accident and took it upon himself to informed the police, just because he is a bit of a bullie and he thought it would funny to kick a man when he was at rock bottom!

What is my point!

I agree he should not have driven car without insurance! but the guy that informed the police, a few weeks later got caught speeding in Scotland, then he lied to the police and said he wasn't driving!

Normally I wouldn't voice my opinion, but my friend has been made to suffer just because this guy thinks he's above the law and he can intimidate people.

I know what I would like to do!

But what the right thing to do?

Thanks for reading!

Given the chap reported your friend to the police I think it's only fair that you keep up the same high standards and also report him to the police.

Sometimes people do need to be taught a lesson.

I would never normally report anyone for getting out of a speeding charge as I believe the system is unfair. However in this case I think the guy deserves it. Some people have no standards and are shameless. They will break the law, bully and assault people and act outside the law yet still report their enemies to the police when it suits them. He sounds like the lowest form of scum if you ask me. Do it!

It all comes down to whether you're a New Testament kind of person, an Old Testament kind of person, or a retribution-seeking "Falling Down" kind of person!

If you work at a garage or dealership and you see/know of a customer driving other than in accordance with a licence you have to report it, bully or otherwise.
We had a chap who'd come in to get a new set of number plates for one of his car's. He thought that because one of his cars was insured & taxed he could duplicate the number plates and put them on the other car which he'd brought in to the dealership. Obviously the V5 didn't match the car he'd come in and so the parts chap called the police who promtly turned up.

hi, i have looked at what has been said the last comment allthough apears to be the same ,it is far fromit people that break the law and then report others for the same, are not who you would wish to benear you in crises as they would stitch you to protect them selves
what the guy should realy do is go to the police and addmit what he has done, and then say sorry to the guy that he reported so slowly he mite beable to rebuild the trust back of his freinds remember it takes a life time to build up respect from others ,that would then stop the guy who asked the ? dropping to his level

So the OP's friend was driving without insurance, and hit another vehicle (presumably his fault as he offered to pay for it?), and you seem agrieved that someone dobbed him in? What if he'd killed someone whilst driving uninsured?

Uninsured drivers are scum of the earth and need removing from the gene pool asap.

But also feel free to dob the garage guy in as well - he won't be so smug either when he get's slapped with a PCJ charge...hehe

i think the ? was should, he turn the guy in or not,
being insured would not stop you killing some one,
the comander of homeland defence, is calling on us all, to tell of any thing that we feel is wrong, NOW THAT I AGREE WITH , BUT TELLING ON SOME ONE FOR THE SAD PLEASURE OF IT IS UNFORGIVABLE would you want him near you when you catch someone in your house,a theif say ,as you gave him a slap,

Why does everyone think it's ok to be an uninsured driver just because someone grassed you up? FFS the guy caused an accident and was uninsured. What if he had written off an expensive car? Or disabled a child? Would he still be able to pay these off? I very much doubt it if he didn't even bother with insurance.

Just imagine this from the other side. Some guy crashes into you, and then tells you he doesn't have insurance. He then offers to pay for the damage and points you to a little garage he knows to do the work… errr I don't think so somehow! I'll be straight on the phone to the police to report the accident. Does that make me a bad person for reporting him? NO! of course it doesn't.

I don't really care if this other guy is trying to get out of a speeding ticket. It's not the right thing to do, and if he gets caught then it's his problem. However I've got nothing against him for reporting a non-insured driver. I wish more people would. Anyway if he works in the garage isn't it his legal responsibility to do so?

are so the garage owner where he works should report the grass, as it is, his legalduty as the guy in ? was stopped with no tax or insurance in his own van and then alledgeley produced a invalid insurance document as he was told by is insurance he was not coverd at the time and appears to of got away with it. this and lying to the police in scotland
