School zig-zags
Discussion
Hello all, I've followed the site for a while; interesting stuff. Finally registered... have a question and I knew where I'd be able to get an answer!
My wife complained today to somebody parked on yellow zig-zag lines outside our local school; they were causing a backlog of traffic whilst playing with their automatic convertible roof... My wife complained about her illegal parking.
The response that came back was that it is only illegal if parking on the zig-zags during school hours.
This came as a bit of a surprise... asked somebody else, who asked their PC friend, and the response was that this is correct: not illegal to park on the yellow zig-zags, or even on the white ones by zebra crossings.
This surely can't be correct! I'd appreciate some response from somebody In The Know.
Many thanks, Mark

That is quite correct..the restrictions on parking/stopping in such areas are normally in place during school term times of between 8.15 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. and between 3.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays.
Parking inside the limits of a pedestrian crossing however is 24/7 365-6 days a year and is within NIP territory.

With the caveat that there must be a time plate with the yellow school zig zags for them to be a specific enforceable offence (& with most there isn't). If not it can only be dealt with as unnecessary obstruction etc if appropriate.Parking inside the limits of a pedestrian crossing however is 24/7 365-6 days a year and is within NIP territory.
Ped-x crossing white zig zags apply at all times no time plate needed.

One school near me where the school bus parks on the lines outside school. Today there were 3 parked there

At one school around here one bus pulls up and parks on the wide pavement, the other parks on the zig zags - forcing anyoneone with a pushchair and small kids (most of them as this is next to a pre-school/junior) to walk out into the middle of the road. Luckily we have a local Commmunity support officer to stand and look on while the chaos ensues. Seems she only takes action if you drive a car.
