Just saw a a newly erected sign on a roundabout (Abbotsinch retail park nr Glasgow airport) sellings space on it for advertising. This is a joint venture between the local council and some marketing company.

I personally think this is an unbelievably stupid and dangerous distraction but is it legal?

It is illegal under the Traffic Sign Regulations and General Directions, and also, I think, under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, for any person to erect an advertising sign on the public highway (or road as it is legally termed in Scotland) without the permission of the local highway (or roads) authority.

In other words, if they have the highway/roads authority's permission, then it's legal.

South Oxfordshire admitted that plastering all our countryside roundabouts with advertising would never make it past their own planning guidelines...... but as it made them money, they had on intention of running it past planning and did it anyway frown

Is the advert for Jeep, B&Q, or Swan Vestas? - Streaky
