My 13 year old chav neighbour has been bought (or has stolen) what looks like a trials bike - and he insists on riding it up and down the private courtyard shared by us and several other houses.

I presume that he has no insurance etc, so if he hits a parked car then it will be a lot of hassle, to add to that, the bike is quite noisy - and now attracts more of his little chav mates to hang around outside.

Is there anything the BiB can do? I keep an eye out to see if he ventures onto the road. We have never really got on with his family, his mother doesn't care what he gets upto and his Dad lives elsewhere.

Warning to other owners,

1kg of nails.

Job done.

biggrin

Bike lent up against wall whilst going in for his tea of Iceland burgers and Micro chips,

1 kg sugar,

Job done.

Buy a load of bamboo canes. Accidentally shove one in the spokes of his front wheel as you unload them from the car.

Job done.

None of the above is advisable but just enjoy the mental images of the end result as you slink up to the neighbours door to ask if they could limit him to just a few hours a week. Failing that buy your own, let the neighbours you get on with know what you are up to and get it out whenever he gets his out. He WILL NOT like it.

A word of warning. If it's a private courtyard then like any private land he CAN ride the bike and BIB may not wish to get involved unless permanent public vehicular access can be established. If the bike has no seat and has a u bend shape to the centre of the bike then it may be a Trial machine. However they tend to be the quietest of the off roaders.

s59 of the Police Reform Act allows police to seize vehicles that have been driven in a careless or inconsiderate manner (or off road) in a manner likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to members of the public.

The forms we use carry the registration number, date of offence, time of offence etc. A record is made on the Police National Computer (PNC) against the vehicle and driver/keeper (whoever is named on the form). This lasts for 12 months and AFAIK also applies if you are driving another car.

I don't know if it's applicable in this case but it sounds like it might be. Maybe someone who actualy knows about these things could comment?

And how many Trials bikes are road registered???? Again the act will not apply to private land where permission has been obtained. Is this case one of the courtyard owners will have consented. It's up to the others to look at the ownership and access and see if he can be stopped.

Not Funny. Too many local nimbies who think the local RUPP should be "their" footpath do that.

As for Harassment. He does not appear to be "targetting" anybody and "Nuisence" could be hard to prove again if permission has been given.
