... The Peoples Republic of North Wales.

My mother has just gotten a Gatso notice (but no picture, though it claims there is one - thought they were supposed to send them out these days) from the forces of the Evil Brumstrom.

At an aleged 35mph, on a road on which the limits apparently vary constantly for no discernable reason in her oh-so-very-dangerous-automotive-hooligan silver 2003 Honda Civic automatic. Yet another completely blemish-free license by the wayside then [she really doesn't think it is worth the effort to appeal it - is it?] with no discernable reason beyond ... {rant denied - you've all heard it all so many times before}

Frankly, it is just fcensoreding ridiculous isn't it.

Tricky one though. In your opinion, what speed should merit a ticket?

Depends on:

- whether she thinks that she was really doing that speed, or,
- whether the signage was up to spec (as it often isn't, why is precisely why speed traps are sometimes sited in such places).

Depends on the circumstances. A specific speed for a ticket is just stupid. Plods used to know this.

Your Mother is no doubt devastated, but it's only a penalty, not a conviction, so it doesn't really matter.

I would be a little concerned if it really was a Gatso though - they shouldn't be difficult to spot, and being done at 35 her speedo would probably have been showing 37/38 MPH.

yeah, her speedo was most likely close to 40 to get done for 35mph...

Im all for policing 30mph zones..

As far as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act is concerned it is a conviction.

You can't be convicted without a court, however.

Isn't it time they just handed it all over to the LA to fine us when they please (oh - they have in London already).
