Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster would appreciate some advice.

So, My S1 Elise Sport 135 has been in storage (in my fathers garage) for the past 4 years as i've been working in the States.
My wife is now going to be back in the country for a few months for family reasons, and needs a car.
So... giving her the lotus seems more sensible, logical, not to mention cheaper than buying/ renting/ leasing a car for her.

Question: My fathers garage is in North Wales. The nearest Lotus dealer is about 30 miles away in Cheshire (Chris Neils)
Its been off the road for a few years, and has no tax or MOT. Further, i wouldn't be at all surprised if because its been sat there, a couple of rubber CV boots or something need replacing etc.

Can i legally have her drive it to the Lotus dealer 30 odd miles away for an MOT even though there are many MOT stations closer on the basis they're not Lotus dealers or Lotus specialists, and therefore couldn't rectify issues properly.
OR. must i MOT it closer, and If it fails can it then be driven to the Lotus dealer if it has a booking??
OR
can i not do either, or is it one of those marvellous muddy grey areas that isn't really clear either way?

Thanks in anticipation.

You can drive it to & from a pre arranged MOT test. You can't drive it to a dealers for fixing.

To be honest I wouldn't let my wife drive a car that had been mothballed for a few years. I'd be looking at getting it recovered to the Lotus dealers for peace of mind.

Hasn't he asked if the car can be driven to the Lotus dealer's for an MOT?
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe that the law requires that the pre-arranged MOT test be done at the nearest possible MOT station. It can be done at any MOT station, so long as the car travels only on a direct route from storage site to station, can it not?

Whether it would be wise to drive car at all is different question.

No it doesn't have have to be the closest MOT station (I didn't say that it did, did I ? confused ), but you wouldn't be able to go around the houses etc on the way to the pre-arranged testing station.

Agree with Von.I would get it recovered to the garage. The tires may have perished, brakes could fail etc.I would not want to risk anything going wrong resulting in injury or damage to the car or others.

As were you, I was trying to be helpful to the OP. It seemed that, regardless of what your reply to him did say, it was ambiguous as to whether one was allowed to drive the car to the dealer's for the purpose of an MOT.

Also, being an Elise, it will need a new battery.

aha, didn't think of that. Lotus's are generally awfully strong and robust. :-) I'll have it checked out - thanks
