Personalised plates

If a vehicle is stolen and it has personal plates and the vehicle is not recovered who owns the plate?

You can apply to the DVLA to retain the lost numberplate. But do it before the insurance co settle everything.

I had this basically happen, though got car recovered. As it was recoeverd my insurance company let me keep the V5 document until I got plate swapped onto retention and then send them the new V5.

Otherwise you can get a letter from your insurance company stating the have no interest in the plate and when you supply this to DVLA you can get it back.

Complete pain when you have to work on keeping what you've already paid for because someone steals you car...
