Hi all,

Thanks all.

You must tell you insurance co of any mods otherwise you can find yourself with no insurance if you have an accident.
I'd check with your insurance company first as they may not actually cover your modifications if they are a mainstream insurer.

Seems quite a common solution these days!

I've never understood this take on it, if you don't inform your insurer, you don't actually have insurance, so why pay for it?

Do the mods and tell your insurer, or do the mods, tell no one and cancel your insurance because you don't have any anyway, so you may as well save the cost of the premium.

HTH.

I don't actually mean that, I put it in those terms to emphasise my point.

Going by this mate, you won't be driving for a while in about 6 months time when the court date comes through...

To be honest, you might get away with a remap. My friend mapped his and traded it in. In theory it's out there now and the current owner may not know winkwink

BUT, a dump valve and an OMP strut brace scream out 'modded' so you'd be stupid not to declare the lot!

I think I'd consider flogging the golf and buying another Corsa - the insurance won't be too clever on a modded golf for a 25 year old following a ban.

A remap in itself is invisible. No insurance company will ever know or actually understand what has been done to it. The choice is yours.

For the rest you should declare otherwise you could come unstuck if something happens and it's your fault.

Well I could spot a remap, quite easy really if you have the original files and compare the one you copy off the car in say ECM2001 or WinOLS etc... original files are easily sourced from most tuners if you want them.

In my view though, the chances that they do this are pretty small, and ultimately unless the code is timestamped and you are the second owner you could argue you didn't know about it. Afterall I'm sure tons of repossesed cars go to auctions/traders > Joe public and they don't know their cars are altered!

simple, tell em about the dump valve and brace but not the remap. It's not an Enzo so they will hardly be bothered in the unlikely event you hit something with it.......lets face it, you'll be heard a mile away anyhow

You could and so could I but it's beyond the stretch of most insurance companies. A remap is as good as invisible in this context.

Upto you just don't hit me or anyone I know, it will invalidate your insurance and if it is not an OBD port flash, i.e. you have a pre DBW car which by the power figure you are getting sounds to me like you have then they could very likely replace the engine management chip with there own which will be obvious.

As for the other two yes and no, dump valve does nothing apart from make more noise and be more reliable so don't worry too much about it as it will not make a difference to the policy but the strut brace will.

Who are you with anybody like direct line, elephant, e-sure etc will not cover you, greenlight, adrian flux, brentacre etc will and will replace the items like for like.

You think an Insurance company will inspect to that level on a car of this value?

The problem is you never know they may just decide to do a few spot checks as something does not add up, point being is if your car was stolen would you be happy to lose £2 of parts and labour because you did not want to pay an extra £50-£100 pounds on your policy.

Plus don't forget if and I am not saying he will has a big accident involving other people who sue him, then they insurance company will anaylyse the hell out of the car to see if they have a way out.

Your choice if you want to risk it go for it, it does not bother me.

Given that his reg number, first name and profession are available through your profile, probably not too wise IMHO...

The insurance company might not know or understand, but the loss adjuster will. And if the owner of the vehicle has mown down and crippled a 22 y/o breadwinner with 2 small children on a zebra crossing and the insurance company are fighting a £20M damages suit, the loss adjuster will dismantle the vehicle to its component parts, including looking inside the ECU and inspecting any non-standard looking chips, in an effort to avoid paying out.

Sure, don't tell them. If you want to spend the rest of your life paying off that damages claim, once you get out of prison.

Sigh. The value of the car is irrelevant.
