When I bought my present car from a Honda dealer they sent off the necessary paperwork to update the V5C for the car. Unfortunately the muppets got my name wrong. My first name spelt with a double rather than single 'L' and, more importantly, my surname starting with a 'F' instead of a 'T'. Luckily my name isn't Tuck!

If I now want this corrected will it have the effect of adding another 'owner' to the V5C?

If a NIP was produced from DVLC records it would not have my name on! Have I committed an offence by not having this error (which wasn't mine)corrected?

I had this when i bought a new Mercedes C180, the V5 arrived with the wrong car on it! It said it was a BMW 525, even though the engine size was 1.8 litre. Idiots.

Just send them a letter explaining and in about 2 months you'll get a new one. It doesn't affect number of owners or anything like that.

Thanks for the advise - I will try that.

I had this as well. Just send a covering letter explaining. I think you will find them quite helpful smile

They told me I hadn't sold my car. I had! And I'd told them as well.
And they'd refunded my tax at the same time.

They sent me a nice little letter of "Oh OK cheers".

It wouldn't, no - but as this is the info on the V5, you would still be responsible, which is how it should be. You've not committed an offence, I don't think, but you should get it corrected asap.

Given DVLA's level of (in)competence, they'll probably send you a fine in the interim for failing to SORN the vehicle ... and remove your entitlement to drive as well - Streaky
