Having given up on speed limit following since the imbeciles in Suffolk made them unfathomable I tend to just drive to the conditions these days and watch out for yellow boxes and talivan. However, today I got to some traffic lights when a marked car drew up behind.

I'm far from home and looking out for clues as to what the speed limit was made it impossible:

1. lots of lamp posts, right must be 30, so that's what I did -- cop about 5 feet away from my bumper.

2. Suddenly a 40mph repeater (just one) so must be 40, ok up to 40 then. Cop drops back a bit.

3. Oh no! a speed camera sign with integral 30 limit! Right, back down to 30. Cop right up my arse again.

4. Wait a minute, another 40 repeater. Righto up to 40.

5. Hmmmm, haven't seen a repeater for a while, must be 30 with all these lamp posts, slow down to 30, more intimidation from behind.

With all this worry there's no doubt I was spending hardly any concentration on driving safely, instead trying to preserve my licence.

What an attrocious state of affairs.

I was shaking with fear by the time I turned off -- and the car is owned by me, insured by me and registered to me. There was an ANPR setup back up the road and I was fearful of the DVLA database being out of date, etc, etc.

Nothing to fear? My arse.

I find a pressing need to pop into the first garage/shop/pub car park etc when this happens. A quick Ciggy and then back on the road again.

Life is too short and there are too many people with a chip on their shoulder these days.

Went to Silverstone and Snetterton this w/e 2X bib with LT thingies, 4 speed cameras, 3X bib in cars and one utterly pointless set of SPECS. This is all starting to get a bit stupid.

First time in 750,000+ miles of driving that I have ever wondered if there is any enjoyment to be had these days with all the contradictory signage, street furniture, the endless number of machines and people who seem to wish to blot my licence and cretins who think that they have a magic force field that allows them to pull out at will, regardless of the fact that there is a car almost alongside them (8 times then i just gave up counting as i had only just reached the A43)

Hi smile

If ANYONE was tailgating me as close as you imply....BIB or others...I would do an emergency stop to save running over a cat....and my Porsche has extremely good ABS...

Then let them explain running into the back of you....

The point here is that if ANYONE puts you into a fear situation...THEY are in the wrong ...BIB or not...

Their job is to enforce the law...NOT to break it by intimidation...

All the best Brett smile

And if I saw you do that to ANYONE it would be you who'd be getting prosecuted. You are more dangerous than them. Brake testing people has got to be one of the most criminally stupid & idiotic things any driver could do. silly

You perceive something as potentially dangerous & in response do something that is intentionally actually dangerous, yeah that's really sensible.
I despair.

This is just the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. Once I was driving around some bends and came up behind a "defender against evil" like you mid corner. Didn't rush up close or particularly fast but he decided to "teach me a lesson" by standing on his brakes, I had to brake hard mid corner to avoid the collision he was trying to cause, and then moved out to pass him when he swerved onto the wrong side of the road and did it again.

I've never really suffered from road rage but when we stopped down the road a-way for a chat, it was the single hardest thing I've done in my life to resist knocking the pr1ck straight the feck out.

Don't do it. There's enough dangerous r-soles on the roads who just can't drive without people like you deliberately trying to have collisions happen.

Your post epitomise exactly why constant monitoring un-nerve. I know exactly what you mean. (I know what it felt like for shortest time in olde GDR & olde Moscow. (Latter not that much better in reality though by all accounts. I still not fluent. I lost the will when there when student on "elective challenge" in 80s. rolleyes )

clap You say what pass through my mind too. But much better wink

You drive to conditions. Using COAST. Your have responsibility to self und family first with duty of care to others running a very close second. Every thing you do whether legal or "illegal" affect another road user und their perception will not be as yours anyway. wink You have always to evaluate.. plan.. judge situation /. anticipate all the time. It called COAST really wink

Agreed, but driving 5 feet behind someone at 30mph is hardly smart either. I expect you will now go on about road conditions, visibility etc and the fact that the BIB's special training makes it perfectly safe... we all saw that's not the case from the video of PC Langley .. the training does not make you guys super safe and competent drivers, human error will always creep in. The highway codes displays, admittedly outdated, stopping distances for a reason.

Eh?

You were in an area with deficient signage and you didn't choose to press on up to the NSL? Strange.

And any vehicle tailgating you is a lot less dangerous if you get him to pass and be in front of you.

Indicate left, pull over, let him overtake, get the reg of the car, and REPORT HIM. Simple... Or if you have a hands free set, phone up plod, and ask for local trafic division and REPORT HIM. Make a complaint...

Hi smile

I wouldnt do this to a member of the public....I would just either accelerate away or pull over and stop...

But this was a case of intimidation and a dangerous one at that by the BIB...

The BIB was in the wrong if they are making a member of the public feel scared and could possibly have caused an accident!

If I saw this happen I WOULD report the BIB on my phone.....

If it happened to me....you know what I would do....

Personally I will not be intimidated by BIB ....THEY ARE NOT GODS...no matter what they think....I appreciate the work they do but when THEY break the law.....they are in the wrong...

Try and defend what THEY did instead of attacking me ?????????

All the best Brett smile
