Went to Croft last weekend for the BSB racing. After leaving the A1 and still about 3 miles from the circuit, we came across nose to tail stationary traffic, all what looked like heading for the BSB. As we were on bikes and I was leading, we went out to the middle of the road and slowly passed the cars. Sometimes there was double white lines and sometimes not.
After a short while (we were only doing 20ish) I noticed a BIB bike, with blue's on cathing us up. I thought OH SHIT!! But he passed me, waved a cheery Hi and then beckoned to follow him.

As cars approached us, he waved at them to slow down and move over. By now there was probably 20-25 bikes behind me with a police escort, all the way to the circuit. What a happy chap he was. bowthumbup

I think I'll try overtaking stationary traffic by crossing double whites in my Range Rover.
Do you think it'd be ok?

I thought that if the overtaken traffic is doing less than 20 then it is ok (though I think you mean filtering not overtaking...)

As long as the cop who inevitably comes up behind you is also in a Range Rover you should be fine. hehe

Yup. There are still some areas in which motoring isn't more pain than it's worth.

You can pass stationary vehicles, the only moving vehicles you can overtake are pedal cycles or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10mph or less.

Not sure about fixed cameras, but as DvD says their coppers are well versed in handhelds and the use of unmarked cars. So don't think it's free rein...if you drive like a censored-wit then you'll still get stung! It's just that the motivation isn't financial, but is still, largely, safety!

Unless of course your doing so is judged as without due care/inconsiderate driving or dangerous driving. They still apply even where you are legally allowed to cross the solid white line.

How does N Yorks stack up against other counties for KSI.accident rates then?

(And thanks to Von for correcting me on the overtaking thing).
