Well you can read this as well as me !

http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?C...

Would you make the mistake and drive faster if this came up behind you on a motorway, or would you pull out of the way immediately ?

Why would you want to speed up because of what make of car it is ?

I would neither speed up nor pull out of the way.

If I were in the outside lane overtaking slower vehicles and travelling at the posted limit or slightly above and he wasn't 'advertising' what possible reason would there be for me to move out of his way or speed up? (and before you all start...no I would NOT intentionally impede another vehicles progress)

Now, if I was travelling a little too much 'slightly above' and he was behind me, I would expect some 'advertising'...I ain't about to start a road race with any vehicle never mind a Cayman !
If I was in any one of the other two lanes & the driver wanted to pass there would be at least 1 other lane he could use.
Or is it acceptable behaviour nowadays to floor it whenever a high powered car is behind you?

Just to add, there is no such thing as "he made me go faster, officer!" If an unmarked comes up your chuff and you step on it, you have yourself to blame.

Well, some of the words are a bit longer, but which bit don't you understand, Von?

Audi 1 overtakes Audi 2, and blows the doors clean off. Audi 2 driver is a bit surprised, not least because Audi 1 looks a bit older and pokier than Audi 2.

I was surprised to see an Elise keeping pace with me the other night. It doesn't mean I was racing it. I pulled over to let him past as he was clearly the quicker car. Turns out I'd mis-identified a Pagani Zonda in my RVM. Oh so pretty.

What's surprising if you aren't using all the performance of your vehicle that you could rapidly be overtaken at some point by an older car ?
And what's all the thumbup in relation to it confused

If you are sticking to speed limits, it's not going to take something powerful to get by, even if you are driving a RS4.

You shouldn't be driving near the performance thresholds of a RS4 on our roads either, so the blowing away in those circumstances shouldn't come into it if the other driver simply is willing to do so.

Just as in this thread. Porsche Cayman travelling quicker comes up behind.
So what ?
Let it by if you can, you don't need to try & out drag it.
The car type is irrelevant, it could be a Mondeo that's closed on you quickly. Let it by as well.

The point I was making ... sometimes in the past when driving my Porsche I may come across people in the outside line not over taking.

What occasionally would happen as I moved to the outside lane, the person in lane 3 would speed up with no traffic to the left.

That was what was in my mind when I wrote the original post.

I just think this is liable to happen to the cop car ...

confused This thread is about an old Audi being faster than a new one.

What's it got to do with speeding up, and unmarked Police cars.?

If there is space to the left they should move into it, if they choose to speed up simply because a car is behind instead of moving left into the space that's their look out.

What like accelerate to clear the slower traffic in the left lanes, once clear slow and move over left and get nicked for it after having unmarked car close behind you mean?
Entrapment innit?

I said if there is a space to your left (andyuk911 said "....speed up with no traffic to the left" ).
If there isn't a space on your nearside you continue within the speed limit & move to the left at the first safe opportunity.
(No problem with that, you are using an overtaking lane for overtaking.)

Should it made legal to have stopping areas where we can pull over, unzip our kegs, see who has got the biggest willy... and drive on thoughtfully?

Hey Van - first edition of the HC said something like that(circa -the stone tabloid version)- L1 = SLOW LANE,and L3 = OVERTAKING LANE.

Could that be why we find so many numpties in L2?

Can't access the web link so may be going off half cocked.

If the cayman simply has covert blues then it is likley to be a senior police/fire officer or doctor's private vehicle where there is a need for them to be able to respond to get to incidents. Private plate would also make this more likely.

Lane 2 is an overtaking lane too (for overtaking lane 1).

Nope.

If an unmarked comes up your chuff in an intimidating manner it is being driven by someone unfit to be in the police.

Agreed in theory. Although I have to admit if I am using lane 3 to pass slower traffic in lanes 1 and 2 and some fool comes and sits right on my rear bumper then if I judge it to be safe I will speed up to get to the next point where I can safely pull in and let him through (btw - irrespective of whether he has a faster car than me or not). I know it's wrong however my logic is that I would rather get someone who is travelling 1m from the back of my car in front of me where he can't do me any harm as soon as possible. Also getting to a position where I can move over promptly is less likely to result in some sort of road rage incident than obstructing the vehicle behind for longer.
