Applying for shotgun certificate
Discussion
A friend of mine is applying for his shotgun certificate but is a bit worried about having a 6-7 year old conviction (theft and cultivation of cannabis, community service served, conviction spent) I've told him not to panic as they look at every case on its own merits and the fact he has been shooting for years with family and friends who own guns helps as he isnt a novice.
He thinks giving the local firearms officer a call to introduce himself would be a good idea pre-application, any thoughts on this? As they will be meeting him anyway I thought he's better off just putting the form in.
opinions?
cheers.

Put the form in and see. Explain use of land etc and 'should' not be an issue unless he is seen as really unfit to hold.
What area is he in out of interrest?
Hants, shoots regularly at bisley, laines and a few others. "club" shooting only, like me he's not too keen on blowing the face of various bits of wildlife. Clays is good enough! What area is he in out of interrest?

That may be so...but to the shooting establishment it still seems as though it was yesterday...that combined with ever present media reports of shootings etc etc etc.
to the o/p put the application in but also flaot a call intot eh firearms officer as it can't hurt....they are more interested in making an assessment of what type of person you are!!
