Dangerous Driving resit
Discussion
guys,
i got done a while back on my bike, charged with dangerous, 1 yr ban resit etc.(although it was just speeding but thats another story)
My question is, do i have to resit BOTH bike & car tests? i haven't got the provisional ticket back yet. I've been told that i have to do an extended test to get my licence back as it was with bike & car entitlement on it. i assumed i'd have to do both....any thoughts?? cheers

The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1999
46(7) Where the disqualified person passes the practical test on a vehicle of a class included in category B, except a vehicle included in sub-category B1, the disqualification is deemed to have expired additionally for all the classes of vehicle included in:
(a) categories A, B+E, C, C+E, D and D+E, unless that test is passed on a vehicle with automatic transmission, then the disqualification is deemed to have expired only for the classes of motor vehicle included in those categories that have automatic transmission;
(b) categories G, H and L.

But Von the link from DVD states, "Following disqualification from riding under the Road Traffic Act, all riders are required to complete compulsory basic training (CBT) to validate their new provisional driving licence when it is issued."
They do, if it's the bike test they do.But if you hold also hold a car licence & do the test in a car, you don't have to do the bike test.

so basicly you can pick whatever class you had on your licence that you think you'll pass easiest to regain all entitlements?
seems daft - its much easier not to do 150mph in a car than it is on a bike. physically of course, there are a lot more places a bike can speed due to accleration than a car.
besides if your banned due to a bike offense its daft not to regain your licence by proving you can ride a bike correctly.

No, not exactly, only limited to certain classes of vehicle.seems daft - its much easier not to do 150mph in a car than it is on a bike. physically of course, there are a lot more places a bike can speed due to accleration than a car.

You won't for instance get back your PSV or LGV classes back when you pass your class B test. You'd have to take them seperately again.

yup thats fair enough. just seems odd you can get done for riding a bike & get your licence back by driving a car.
its bit like proving your not a druggie to get over a shoplifting conviction.
If he passes it on a bike (class A) it means he doesn't have to take a test for a car as well (class B).its bit like proving your not a druggie to get over a shoplifting conviction.
Do you think the car test is much easier than the bike test then ?
its not to do with which test is easier. it just seems odd you dont have to be tested on the disapline that you committed the offense in. i know the rules of the road are the same for both, but from experience ive got a different mindset when on a bike than in a car. so to me testing the mindset that caused the problem makes much more sense.
doesnt really matter anyway, its just my view at the end of things.

Is the ONLY reason for an extended test if you have been banned? Could you not be on an extended test after losing your license through medical reasons?
IIRC Extended retest is currently only for more serious offences such as dangerous driving. The Secretary of State can change that though under Road Safety Act & there was talk of it being introduced for drink drive where disqualified for 24+ months.Forums | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
