The man who drives this car is lucky to be alive on two counts. First of all for undertaking at speed on the M4 at 5pm approaching Bracknell from Maidenhead, he forced his way in front of me with no indication, his rear offside quarter absolutely inches from my front nearside quarter at 70mph, forcing me into very heavy braking with my two offside wheels on the grass. Pure luck that there wasn't a very large accident. Secondly for then brake testing me for several miles and making crude gestures, in response to my use of the horn. I seriously considered following him home and smashing his face in.

maybe worth reporting him to the BIB ? I know their response varies greatly depending who you talk to, but I believe they have been known to visit people for a quiet word if they get enough independent reports of their bad driving.

Back off and let them get on with it . One day they will meet someone with a similar sized brain and with a bit of luck there will be a couple of less crazy drivers for a while.

Unfortunately law abiding motorists will probably be killed by these people at the same time.

Could you have pissed him off by being in the right lane when there was room for you to move to the left? Could you have been following him to close afterwards?

With coments like "I seriously considered following him home and smashing his face in." you don't sound like a very nice bloke. Perhaps you got what you deserved?

There was an HGV in lane two, overtaking another HGV in lane one. The reason he had to force his way into lane three was that he was rapidly approaching the rear of the HGV and didn't want to slow down. At 5pm the M4 is very busy in that area. I was in a line of cars in lane three that were travelling at 70mph nose to tail. And no, I'm not a very nice bloke when almost forced into the central reservation and then subjected to crude gestures.

Cos if you want one, oh yes, you'll get it, sunshine wink

M_A_M - deep breath, back off the loud pedal for a minute then resume your journey. Don't let it get to you. Report him if you have the details though - for the undertake and the brake testing.

Perhaps wouldn't mention wanting to smash his face in when describing the incident though, espescially as the reg details are now on the internet, doesn't paint you in a good light no matter how justified.

How can you bang on about safety when you admit to "nose to tail" at 70mph and then follow someone that close they can brake test you. Either you are concerned about safety, or you were just pissed off by getting undertaken. Your actions after the event point to the latter.

Any regular browsers on Pistonheads would I doubt describe M-A-M mate as a not very nice person!! All his (is assume male other wise it should be 'Ma') post seem level headed!

I would have the same reaction I think! Why is it when numpties are clearly in the wrong they then take it out on the other person? Odd.

Hopefully laguna person will get suitably chastised by someone in the near future!

It's a fair question - if the person was able to undertake, it is perfectly logical to consider that the OP have pissed off the other driver by being a MLM or OLM.

Or do we only slate M / OLM when they are not PH'ers?

The outside lane convoy is a pain in the arse, it has to be said.

But if you drop out of it then someone will take your place in the "queue", so you end up forced into position by the numpty at the front who won't pull over.

(though some could say peel off into lane 1 and do the lot of them, but that would be naughty....)

"Hank", when I say 'nose-to-tail' I mean with an appropriate gap between them. I wasn't tailgating the car in front, but there wasn't a space for another vehicle between me and the vehicle in front. The car in question undertok me and forced its way in front of me, without indication or warning, forcing me to take evasive action to avoid a serious accident.

At the risk of incuring M-A-M's wrath he does seem to operate on a short fuse, It sounds to me like he was either too close to the guy in front (no available gap to slot into) or he was not prepared to let the Renault in (not exactly IAM type driving).
We all suffer road rage sometimes but getting people to admit they might actually be the cause of it is another thing, maybe M-A-M should change his name to Mr Angry.

Go on, give me a piece of your mind now.

I shan't give you a piece of my mind, but believe me, the Renault came up the inside at a rate of knots and forced itself into a gap that wasn't there. The whole thing was exacerbated by the fact that traffic ahead of me was slowing, and he couldn't see that until he'd half forced his way into lane three and then had to stand on the brakes. He forced his way into my contingency space and then left me with nowhere to go. If I had been tailgating we would have collided.

In my view undertaking is ALWAYS dangerous. I'm very tolerant of people who make errors when driving, I sometimes make errors myself. I'm extremely intolerant of wilful arrogance and stupidity, especially when being put in genuine danger. The fact that the bloke then brake-tested me (all the way to 30 mph in rush hour traffic in lane three of the M4, on several occasions) and made continuous crude gestures, really showed that what I was confronted with was an arrogant, stupid idiot.

You have obviously calmed down now, you probably reacted like 9/10 of us would have, incidents like this make you want to go out and buy a Land Rover 110 just to commute in.

I have a Lanr Rover 109. Not quite the thing for commuting between Bristol and London on the M4!
