Depends where

There is a hill halfway down the A38 which has adverse camber as you go over it. Try and go over it at more than 80 in anything less than a reasonable car and you lose it.

I personally had to act as a witness where a car doing 85 over that part of the hill basically lost it and flipped the car, and the passenger in the back (not wearing a seatbelt - car was too old to have them in the back) flew out the windows and smashed into the road right in front of me (on the other side of the carrage way.

However they always used to put the laser vans on a dead straight bit near Plympton for some reason... rolleyes

I think they would be better off with unmarked cars or normal plod cars to be honest as that would actually provide a visible warning and weed out the idiots who dont know the road but hey what do I know...!

They've edited it!

It's funny how people who regularly use the road regularly speed there. Well NSS, could it be they've noticed the speed limit is too slow for the conditions. Unless there's good evidence of them crashing because of the speed they're doing (which seems unlikely) I'm going for the wrong speed limit explanation.

One could argue that point for most of the motorway/dual carriageway network. A view backed up by everyday experience. I believe the underlying policy is to make driving as awkward and unpleasant as possible to discourage people from using the roads. frown

Its a cracking road, lots of nice bends. Cant say i ever seen a van or speed checks on it though. One of the highlights after getting off the awful motorway!

Better be careful next time then. I've seen lots of speed traps on it before, mostly, as has been said, near Plympton.

The article was about the A38, any particular reason for mentioning Totnes? Personaly I would be more than happy if Totnes was flattened, often it takes me longer to get through it than the entire rest of my journey (if not the traffic then the very suspicious 'alternative lifestyle' inhabitants milling around...).

I drive from Plymouth to Paignton everyday (for the last 10 years), the A38 is a reasonable bit of road in the dry, but has terrible drainage and standing water problems when wet. Oddly enough I have seen the scam vans far less this year than I did last year.

Sounds like I should be fine if I don't continuously do 100mph though...I'll limit it to bursts of no more than a mile or two biggrin
