The officer is my mate Jon. He dealt with this bloke very well in such a confined space at Torquay police station. If he hadn't of been so quick then things might have been very different.
To answer your point
1. It can take a little while to get the handcufs off as the keys are very small and it can be a bugger to get them in the hole.
2. He had already been given a search prior to going in this room. The knife was hidden in a belt. You can't search someone properly with handcuffs on.
3. Not many.

Not taking anything away from your mates reactions or efforts, which were quite astonishing, but I'm surprised a knife that big was missed down the front of the waisteband. Cuffed I'd have thought that particular area should be easier to check.EU_Foreigner said:
Complete madness ... Did he think he was just going to walk out of there with the knife?
Really weird - what an idiot!Assuming he was in under some minor crime, he then pulls out a knife and attempts to stab a police officer - in full view of police witnesses and CCTV. What did he expect to happen...?
Que?

Poor chap's head seems to hit the counter awfully hard when he accidentally pulls it back to avoid the policeman's hand. Shame that.
Wonder what happened out of sight of the camera? A wee chat over tea and scones?
Absolutely nothing would have happened. More than an officers job is worth. No longer the days of life on mars. He would have been taken to a cell and had a cell exit porcedure performed. Absolutely no beating of any kind.Wonder what happened out of sight of the camera? A wee chat over tea and scones?

steventoon: Your mate Jon looks a reasonable fella.
Give him my regards, tell him well done.
I can't imagine what must have been going through his mind as he exited that room, what a turnaround.
The pathetic cries of alright alright by this person.
No mate, its not alright, not alright atall.
Top marks for the reaction by the boys.
Top marks for the big guy who jumps on the counter and blocks the camera.
I would have really hurt that guy then, really hurt him.
No matter whats posted on SpP+L, well done, good work, next time break his arm.
