He has been warned to expect a custodial sentence.
It's not the first time he has done it apparently, he's been doing it for parking etc as well.

Surely the use of the green light on his roof would constitute proof of intent to impersonate a legally permitted user, so throw the bloody book at the bastard. furious

PCJ isn't it? So presumably at least 6 months, which is less than he deserves.

This sends out a clear message to drivers who may think they can get away with lying about their circumstances to escape prosecution or attract a lower sentence.
Hmmm. Yes lying is bad alright. Well unless you're claiming that by fleecing the motorist you're making the roads safer. But then not making the roads safer. Those sorts of lies are ok I guess.

My guess is that he'll be ducking when the book is thrown at him. 6 months is the limit of the Mags powers and they've kicked him upstairs to face the PCJ charge.

The court really really don't like being taken for suckers.

If he'd not claimed court costs he'd have probably got away with it?

Don't forget that a green light has no particular legal recognition..I'm not sure that it is illegal to stick one on the roof of your car if you are obeying road traffic laws (which this punter clearly wasn't).

I gave up using my magnetic emergency light when it kept slipping off the roof of my (grp)fhc Elan !

It is illegal under Reg 27(8) RVL Regs 1989

It's not a motoring offence that he would be being imprisoned for.

No, but it was misuse of a motor vehicle that triggered the whole process. Had the motoring offence not taken place the attempted deception would not have happened either.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

He impersonated a doctor, before this speeding case.
Pervert the Course of Justice out of practically any incident & you are making things worse.

Yes, I appreciate that. I was merely noting that had the relatively minor motoring offence not occurred, nor would the more serious offence that followed it. I'm not actually seeking to excuse his behaviour.

Best wishes all,
Dave.
