Just found this site today as ive been forced to do research about speeding..

My dad got 2 letters in the post today from the police saying that our 206 was caught doing 43mph in a 30zone twice in 25minutes! and it was me driving... looking at sites it looks as though i will clock up 6 points for these 2 offences and as ive only been driving 22months my driving license will be revoked and i will have to do everything again.....

I wanted to know how likely it is they will offer me to take part in a speed awareness scheme workshop instead of getting the points, even if its for only one of the two, i can live with 3 points..i just dont want it taken away from me!!!

My dad has to fill out the back on both letters stating it was me, could we attach an additional letter begging for atleast one of the offences to be sorted with the scheme so i avoid being revoked?

Thanks for your help!

(an upset) Chris

Probably too high a speed for speed awareness course.

IIRC, they can't offer the course if (and I'm a little fuzzy here) you're in your probationary period, or its going towards your 12th point. IIRC, it's one of those two.

and I thought only offerd if around 35/6 in a 30, not 43. However, you might be able to get both offenses put together as one, but 25 minutes might be too great a time for this - was it on the same road ?

National Speed Awareness Courses will not be offered to offenders who were travelling at a speed greater that 10% plus 6 above posted speed limit.

Are you sure you were driving?

Also, ask for the evidence of the vehicle. If it's on the same road you *might* have a chance of combining the two offences as one offence. But i think that the time difference is too much.

Also, if the offences occured at the smae place (but in two different directions) then could your dad not have picked you up from "work" and you have driven back from "work". Thus meaning that actually, the SCP have to apply 3pts to each license?

One other thought, you say you've been driving for 22 months, if you don't get convicted until after your 24 month probation period is up, do you still get banned for 6 points? If your dad requested the photographic evidence to help him identify the driver, this would take at least another month in my experience.

Thanks for all your replies.....

Its a bitch about that awareness course thing, thought it was my only hope.

My dad wont take the blame cos he reckons it's too risky as he's never had anything on his license for over 35years and he works in central London and this happened in Pinner on the outskirts of London where we live so he thinks it'll look too suspicious

It was on the same road, i assume i was going in opposite directions and the times were 10.42am and 11.09am so 27mins difference, there's no speed camera on that road so i assume it must've been a sneaky policeman in a car on the side of the road.. must've thought he'd hit the jackpot when he saw me coming back again 27mins later!

About dragging my heels to make it go past my 2 year period, im sure i read somewhere that it counts from the date of the offence, not the date of all the followups??

Thanks again

Pretty sure it's from the date the endorsements are made, as a friend of mine received 9 points for an offence committed well within the 2 year probationary period, but due to the case dragging on for months escaped having his license revoked as the points were added after the 2 year mark.

so should i get my dad to leave this letter for a few days, then send it back and hope they drag their heels about sending me my one?

I suppose you could employ delaying tactics like requesting photo evidence etc., but so long as you don't send your license off to have the points applied before the 2 years are up, I think you'll be OK. That's the main thing, don't have the license endorsed until the probationary period has passed. Own up, take the points, pay the fine, learn from your errors, but keep your license wink

I quote you above because you say letter went to your dad, which suggests he is registered keeper of car. Are you a named driver on his ins. policy (don't answer) even where he never drives the vehicle, to make the premium cheaper? If so, you might be risking further conviction for driving without insurance (I think) if authorities were to find out :-) Just so you can get this fixed ...

Would suggest you get advice on how to ask to combine these offences, in exchange for guilty plea.

Im sure if you say you didnt slow down between each camera shot then it only counts as one crime and not two? Dont quote me on this...

Im quoted on the insurance as the second driver and he does drive it as well so i guess im ok there.

How would i go about requesting them to be grouped as one crime?

God knows - sorry!

I have read that same excuse was used to get someone else out of two fines but the duration in between each photo was only a few minutes... Best to ask a lawer type person, but at least you have something to go on!

If it were me i would be looking to delay it further just to cover myself, did the letters come recorded delivery...If not i would reply to one and maybe not the other but hide the one i dont relpy to very well or even burn it and then deny all knowledge of having recieved the letter in the first place. This would probally end up in court but after a good few months at which time you can just admit the offence and get the points then, as long as you dont mind paying a couple of quid more in a fine.

25 minutes apart isnt duplicity.

Like shooting 2 cameras 100 yards apart at same speed or like an accident resulting from failing to conform to Give Way sign
(due care/fail to conform)
