Need Advice from the BiB please (not speeding!)

Ok, need some advice on what to do here, doesn't just involve me, it involves a few people and some of them are in the USA.

We saw an advert for a job, we all applied and were all 'hired' awaiting a start date. In the meantime, the person that hired us had collected personal information (names, DOBs, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses) more worrying is the fact that due to having to verify that all applicants are over 18, we had to send copies of id (driving licences etc)

We were all kept hanging due to one problem after another, and then were given a start date of 17 August, then that got cancelled, and we heard nothing more from her.

Someone in the same industry as this job was, has done some digging at Companies House, and it has been revealed that the company was not set up and registered until after all our info had been collected.

Is there anything at all that we can do about this? I mean the fact that they collected the data and we presume still have it, as you can imagine we are all worried about identity theft, fraud etc.

We really need to know what if anything we can do and who we go to about it.

I am in Lancashire, the company is registered in Essex. I haven't recieve anything dodgy recently.

But since posting the question this afternoon, I have actually had an email from the 'hirer' saying that the company collapsed before it even got off the ground, that's she's destroyed our id and she's very sorry, (yea right!)

I have a friend that's doing some digging for us at the moment.
