Im a little worried about my insurance.

I called up my insurer today for a quote to add a 2nd car.. and they reeled off the details they had for me..

Blah blah 3 points

blah blah non fault accident excess recovered

blah black accident £400 costs excess not recovered..

Hang on a second thats not right.. i tells them that iv not had an accident where there was a payout and not recovered my excess.. the only thing i can think of is when i had a single vehicle accident, i reported it to my then insurers but paid out from my own pocket. there was never a claim and my NCB wasnt affected..

Surely this cannot be what they are talking about? i cant remember if i would have mentioned it when i took the cover out or not.

Whats the deal with insurers talking to each other about this sort of thing?

Im a little worried that its holding the cost of my insurance high and there may be other issues.

Anyone have any opinions or educated guesses?

Cheers

You have to report all accidents and claims no matter if your to blame or not.Insurance companys use a database to look at your previous history. Therefore if you informed them of a slight bump you had within the last 3 to 5 years this would be held on record. This therefore would be held against you as it shows them you are a risk.
They will look at it like this......Mr X reversed into a bollard then and caused x amount of damage but next time he could reverse into a car and result in a large claim. Therefore you are a higher risk and so they may charge slightly more.

yes but even if that was the case they just plucked the costs out of thin air £400 thats made up or sommit as there was no claim so no costs reported.. it makes no sense

They will have got the data from CUE, so ask them who registered that claim. If could be that it was regsitered by mistake, or under the wrong reg.

Claims Underwriting Exchange. All insurers subscribe to this, and record any claims on it. So that is where your insurer is getting their info from. Ask them for the details.
