Road Wars - What happens when?.......
Discussion
Saw this on tv the other night and an unmarked police car was chasing a Metro which had been nicked. As the metro turned right into a side road the police car nudged it and sent it crashing into a parked car. Who pays to get the innocent car fixed? Obviously the metro driver isn't insured as its been nicked so do the police pay or is it down to the innocent car owner? If its the police then their insurers must be paying out a bomb for all the damage caused by the police ending persuits this way.

You've obviously never seen an American Police chase then!!andy400 said:
I've always thought that the theft insurance on the stolen car would cover the collateral damage.
Sincerely hope I never have to find out first hand.
The insurers of the stolen vehicle only have to deal with a third party claim IF the driver of the stolen vehicle was prosecuted by the police - you couldn't make it up Sincerely hope I never have to find out first hand.

Yep that's my understanding. If a scrote steals your car and damages other cars and other property whilst the Police are apprehending him then it is your insurance policy that pays up. Sincerely hope I never have to find out first hand.

Aren't the police 'self-insured' rather than having an insurer provide cover?
AFAIK, the Police have their liabilities covered by the State; they are not insured as we would understand it.Mainly because no insurance company will touch them - they're a terrible risk.

Shouldn't the criminals pay by selling off organs to cover the costs? Ive heard you can get a good wad from corneas these days. I'd be willing to extract them with a penknife if I caught them.
A pen knife? Too kind.
