Bus-stop restrictions in London
Discussion
I'm in need of some advice. Was in London a couple of weeks ago (don't live there) and on leaving sunday night I pulled into a bus-stop around 10pm just for less than 2 minutes (as seen by CCTV) with lights/engine/indicator running just to adjust sat nav or something.
I've just received a letter stating that i'm in violation etc and PCN for £120 but I only pulled over for 2mins wtf!? I've sent an email to appeal, there were no buses/traffic obstructed at the time and i'm not from london...what are the chances of me getting out of this?

Quite simply the most random reply I've seen here.

You stopped in a bus stop. Pay the fine. Unless you were driving a bus.
It had one of these:-

This is a bus stop clearway.

As an example, every week I deliver to Chiswick High Rd. Parking restrictionsstart at 07:00 (why?). If we are still there at 06:55, the traffic warden makes a beeline fo us and at exactly 07:01 he slaps a ticket on. Got
all to do with congestion and everything to do with raising revenue.
Same parking office covers Uxbridge. The loading/unloading bay has a 20 minute limit on it. Impossible to unload an artic in that time, but we are allowed to drive around the blocjk and go back to the same space.
And they wonder why major stores are pulling out of the high st locations

The carrer chasing doo-gooders are making this country a very weak & vurnerable place to be. There's no common sense any more

This is the latest anti-motorist scam in London.
You certainly have no chance of getting out of it by trying to reason with them. They're just trying to get your money any way they can, and whether you were blocking traffic etc doesn't come into it (in fact the congestion-causing obstructions that the councils are constantly creating shows that that's a blatant lie). It's a nasty, mean-spirited "game" perpetrated by cowards in plush offices spying on us through their myriad of CCTV cameras (which, incidentally, aren't used to detect real crime).
You do have a chance of getting out of it though, even if it may not appear so. They're trying to get you on a technicality, so fight fire with fire. Go to http://forums.pepipoo.com and start a thread in the relevant section. Scan the Penalty Charge Notice, remove personal information and post it. If you can't scan it, type out everything on both sides; bits that may not seem important to you may be fatal to the bastards' case. There are also other things, like the fact that they need to have sent the ticket to you within a certain time period, whether the bus stop was correctly marked, etc. There are many ways in which councils can and do slip up in their rabid haste to take our hard-earned.
You owe it to yourself and your fellow motorists not to give up, at least not yet. TBH you probably shouldn't have appealed by email without first asking at PePiPoo, as you will probably now lose the right to appeal whilst keeping the option to pay at the "discounted" rate. But they may well have rejected your first appeal anyway without even looking at it. There's plenty of case history, and it may well transpire that you find a flaw large enough for you to appeal formally and be confident of winning. Apart from possibly having to pay at the full rate if you lose, there's nothing else to lose by appealing formally. To the chagrin of the councils, if they reject the formal appeal, you have the right to get the case reviewed by an independent adjudicator, and there's nothing they can do about it. How they'd love to be executioner as well as judge and jury.
If you're as pissed off with the scam as me, now's your chance to at least look at fighting it. I've had one camera ticket and I got it quashed as soon as is possible, just with one letter. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress. If everyone took the PePiPoo route with every ticket, councils' profits would be decimated, and they may even make a loss. Like with "safety" cameras, their mean-spirited operations rely on people saying "It's only £60" and caving in for a quiet life. Unlike with "safety" cameras, there's an awful lot less to lose by fighting. That's about the only good side of "decriminalised" parking enforcement.

Ah. The usual Pepipoo "take one for the team" pitch.
Thanks for that. I'm not "pitching" anything, just directing the OP towards a valuable resource (one that some people would apparently love to see disappear). You really puzzle me. You seem to think that everyone who receives a ticket should pay up and shut up, not because they can't fight it, but because that's what's right. I beg to differ in the strongest possible fashion.
Anyone in possession of the facts who doesn't think that council parking enforcement is a scam needs their head examining. It achieves nothing except fundraising for councils and their contractors. Even our Lie-bore government doesn't deny it. This CCTV thing is a step too far, even for greedy anti-car London councils, and I hope they live to regret it. Though it may seem otherwise at times, the British motorist is not infinitely apathetic.

Sweetheart - you have no idea what I think. To the OP - go and have a look at Pepipoo and see if they can help by all means. Beware becoming a Pepipoo martyr, however. Do what is right for you.
Given your initial post, I think paying up, and learning what the rules of the road are is the likely right answer.

I'm only too happy for people who can't follow some simple rules, to pay extra while I pay less. These little extras are entirely avoidable after all, by just obeying the well publicised rules.
See you at 6.45 tomorrow then Von? vonhosen said:

The problem is that the council don't like paying extra when they break the rules:Edited by vonhosen on Monday 17th September 17:37

compare that bay to the image in here:

And tell me why I should pay the parking ticket they gave me?
