Sums up the sad state of Policing.
Then again would the hypocrite British pubic ever allow common sense Policing as they love to jump all over the BiB for the smallest mistake. The Police are too scared to makes mistakes they cover everything 10 times over.
Hate to agree with you, but I think we've ended up with the Police force we'd asked for over the past 50 years. Then again would the hypocrite British pubic ever allow common sense Policing as they love to jump all over the BiB for the smallest mistake. Too many loophole lawyers out there.

I thought it disingenuous of Sir Ronnie Flanagan to complain about the amount of paperwork.
Vast amounts of it have been created in order to satisfy the bean counters from HMIC, the very department he heads.
Also I could not understand what Copperfield was on about when he saw the 2 men with fines outstanding get arrested. If they were warrants backed for bail they would have been dealt with in 5 minutes in the UK, and in most cases not even arrested, but given 'doorstep bail'.
Still that wouldn't have made the point I suppose.

So Sheriff, what's your opinion? Was the Panorama report an accurate portrayal of life as the majority of BiB see it or a minority complaining? Did McNulty give you any hope at all with his platitudes? Do you see the problems reported in the program going away any time soon?I suspect I know the answers, and IMO McNulty appeared to have his fingers in his ears chanting "La la la, I can't hear you, la la la".
I just wish that Jeremy Vine wouldn't use his entire time on telly trying to look cool!
My thoughts as a common garden member of the public was that it confirmed all of the rumours/mutterings/complaints that we have heard for years from the police..
Which then leads me on to think about the comparative crime rates between the Canadian and UK models as their model appeared to give police officers more time on the street.
But then the cynical side of me comes to the fore agan and I wonder whether it's really like that in Canada or is it all spin by the Canadian recruitment team!!

Who would all be out of a job if the entire "justice" system did their jobs properly. And as all the clever people work in banking not the civil service (
), none of the beaurotwats have worked out how to streamline the whole process into effective record keeping and MIS tracking.Bing o said:
That's the point though - you want accountability and professionalism, so you get a raft of forms.
Surely if you have professionalism, you don't need full blown, check every little aspect of the job accountability?I trust the chap at the desk next to me to do his job right because he has gone through the same rigorous recruitment/interview process as me. Thus, he is suitable for the job. If he doesn't do his job correctly, it will soon become obvious; we don't need to check up on him, or employ someone to check up on him, every minute of the day to make sure he is doing his job!
The Police should be run along the same lines. Let them get on with what they know they are supposed to do, and only intervene when their line manager (a time served copper) sees the need to.
Targets Schmargets!
To the BiB on here, what changes would have to be made to get the police doing the job they should be doing? i agree that to a certain extent we have ended up with the policing that a very vocal liberal minority wanted. What needs to be done to get a professional effective police force?
There is no panacea.
If there was it would have been done by now.
The situation we have now is a result of numerous factors, which have all contributed to where we are.
I thought the Vine programme was more of a recruiting ad for Canada, than anything else.
And the Home Office suit forgot to mention that they are shafting those of us that remain over pay.
The beatings will continue until morale improves, I guess.
