When I came to the UK from NL, I had to change my license from a Dutch one to a British one as insurance companies would not insure my (UK) car on a Dutch license (more then 10 years ago).

I understand now that you can drive on an EU license until you are 70. As obviously, you can not get points on a foreign license - is there any reason why I should not get my Dutch license back now?

- Been resident in the UK for over 10 years now
- Have no points on my UK license at the moment
- Have no pending prosecutions

Just thinking about "future" proofing myself. Would this have impact on insurance costs on my (UK) cars?

If your a resident for more than 12 months you'll have to apply for a UK license, big probs if you get caught.

If you came into the UK now on a Netherland Licence and took up residency then your N Licence, providing it was valid, would cover you until aged 70 or for three years after becoming resident, whichever is the longer period. That is for a motor car. Other age limits apply to passenger vehicles etc..

In your case you became a resident here 10 years ago and now have a UK Licence so you are on file at DVLA with a unique Driver Number. What is the point of reverting to a N Licence? N Licence will bar you from FPN's/Conditional Offer and straight to Court. Any points awarded will be married up with your DVLA record.
