Mobile units on bridges
Discussion
Is there a legal requirement for cameras (or tripod mounted something) set up on bridges over motorways to be "announced"?
I.e. shoule there be a highly visible police vehicle or something similar on the bridge?
Went under one the other evening, and glanced up to see a tripod affair with someone peering through a view-finder or similar but there was no obvious warning.

I don't think there is any legislation that makes pre-warning or even obvious marking mandatory. Many 'safety' camera partnerships choose to mark their vans clearly to try and improve public perception of them, as they do in Cumbria.
Sadly in Cumbria's case they still often choose to sit in revenue locations rather than accident prevention ones, such as bridges over the (quiet) M6.
A lot of the time people confuse ANPR operations with speed cameras, too.

I didn't think Scamera Pratnerships operated on motorways. Perhaps I am wrong. It could be the road going over the MWay that they are operating on but sit in view to try and get some sort of secondary effect below.
From memory, M4 - Wiltshire, M4/M5 Avon/Somerset, M4 S.Wales, M180 Humberside, M6 Cumbria (Scambria), A74(M) Dumfries & Galloway are regularly scammed. The last 3 are generally empty and free-flowing stretches of motorway, which I feel driving down at a constant 70 particularly dull.
