I guess he wasnt speeding, driving a nice motor or looked like your average middle class bloke up to no good, if he was either of those three he would have had the book thrown at him.

Fined 100 sheets for no insurance.

If that had been me, Porsche driver in a job, I'd get fined 2k and banned.

£100 for no insurance, with a record like that, presumably as thats all he could pay.

Whereas a chum of mine, got nailed pretty unfairly with a due care charge and because he employed lots of people and created an economy and paid rather a lot of tax got lumbered with a £750 fine.

Quite unbelievable.

Now the fine I don't care about - it's means tested so if you earn more you're fined more, tough shit.

BUT the ban? What the hell is the point of banning this guy? It clearly isn't a strong enough deterrent.

Electric shocks to his boocks every Friday morning for a year. Double the dose each time he is re-caught. I think that should "cure" him.

Article said a 25 year ban a while back, so he'll never drive legally again.
Presumably, as said above the fine is calculated to come out of his benefit, and the suspended sentence is there to try and stop him driving again, as the ban clearly hasnt worked.
What else would you suggest (aside from kicks in the face etc etc) Maybe a word to the boyos that he is arrested so often as he needs the time with the police to tout?

tank Stand by your beds..........No...........Carry On. smile

Means testing enables the punishment to be same for people of differing wealths. Otherwise the wealthier you were the less of a punishment you would face.

hmm, so in your genius "lets judge a book by its cover" approach, you could see I was 350 grand in debt, had the car on finance and couldnt afford to pay the monthly fees?

where as the other guy probbably has several lines of income (ebay etc) whilst dodging the social services and at the end of the month has more free money than i did ?

so he gets punished less than me?

IMO, the minimum penalty imposed for driving whilst uninsured should be the annual cost of the insurance premium being evaded at the time..

With means testing it looks at your disposable income, not just your income. Your debts & outgoings are taken into account.

I didn't comment on your particular case, only the principle.

Why don't you give Norton Finance a call? wink

It's up to you to assist the court. The means testing is for your benefit.
Of course if what you are saying doesn't add up, then they may be minded to ignore it.

One more point but slightly less cash (480)in my 156GTA just after I picked it up 4 years ago not having decellerated quickly enough on leaving a national limit. Means testing - hmm whats all that about it should be used to determine wether you can't pay not how much you can.... The lad up infornt of the beak before me got 3 points and 100 pounds after a 3mile police chase through the town - as he was a student mechanic and would loose his job if he lost his licence

As a counterpoint There is the finnish guy the boss of nokia who got fined some stupendous amount for speeding... 116K euros for 75kph in a 50kph zone (47 in a 31) - now that is eye watering

nono

Twice the cost of insuring the vehicle since you last held insurance/17th birthday, whichever is earlier.

...or joint and several liability for all uninsured losses.

ill be honest, that 535 pound fine was water of a ducks back, ive spent more than that on women who dont want anything other than my drinks in one night.

so what did it teach me?

all, well apart from discrimination, but just like the guy whos been banned 46 times it a pretty sad state of affairs and the BiB on here seem to think they are doing well, dillusioned, you've heard of it (even if I cant spell it)
