Our garlic loving frenchies up to their old tricks.
They favour Sundays as many brits are heading homeward, rushing for the channel crossing
They position themselves besides the motorway, with a camera on a tripod, photo you as you speed by, which records your speed,
phone their mate up the road with your vehicle details. No need to chase you as their mate is positioned just after the peage at Junc 3 and pulls you over as you exit the tolls. 90 Euros cash if you get caught ! Got done myself 2 years ago, so was aware yesterday, when they had pulled 3 brits

My information is that they don't issue tickets
until you are doing more than 160 kmh.

It is your choice to do more than 30 kmh
over the limit.

Personally, I put the cruise on 99 mph,
pop a good CD on and have a nice singalong.

NO NO NO !!!! you're just not getting it are you !!!!

It's everybodies right to speed, it's not their fault they get caught and punished, it's the fault of the people catching the law breakers for the law breakers getting punished... people have a right to do what ever they please if they personally want to, it's not our right to invent laws stopping them and actually policing those laws

When will you learn !!!

Thats rubbish. Yes there are laws against speeding but generally in good conditions, driving on a motorway at 90-100mph is perfectly safe as shown in Germany.

The reason people are annoyed by it is because we here of so many crimes that go unattended and easy targets like the motorist are picked on. I think motorists have every right to feel agrieved given how we are milked for absolutely everything.

SOME motorists are an easy target because they make themselves and easy target

Ok, a couple of months back my mate and I were driving down a 40 limit A road with 2-3 lanes in each direction. The road was practically deserted and so he was driving at a perfectly safe 52mph in a well maintained car. Unfortunately we were snapped by a bib using a radar gun, they were in an unmarked BMW and were just meters away from a BMW showroom.

Compare this to some scrote who threw a can of soup/beans at another friends car, (while driving) and despite being indentified as a local trouble maker, the police didn't want to know. This was despite the can being recovered and the road this happened on is quite busy and is probably covered by cctv.

Explain how my mate, who was driving sensibly wasn't targetted as an easy catch.

SOME motorists are an easy target because they make themselves and easy target
...and because they are subject to even more vicious and arbitrary laws than other citizens, and some of those laws lend themselves to automated persecution.

There's quite a lot of support for trafpol on here, support I'd share in if they were busting MLMs and tailgaters and the like, but if they're going to be used manning speed traps I'd as soon they joined the rest of the parasites from the SCPs and ACPO on the dole.

There are too many laws, there really only need to be two:
  • no theiving
  • no thuggery
The rest is mostly needless fluff.

He was speeding, whether you think it's safe or not is irrelivent.... you can't pick and choose the laws you want to follow, you have to follow them all. Can you imagine what state the country would be in if we allowed people to decide for themselves what laws they abided by and what laws they didn't??? we wouldn't know where the we were

A person speeds, they get caught...they get punished. end of story

We have umpteen laws passed each day - concerning what we eat, where folks can have a fag .. not have a fag in the open air.. where, how, when they place wheely bin for collection.. whether or not a village fete can have a stall whereby you guess the weight of the cake (as if home made with real ingreidents - this somehow less safe to eat than one bought und mixed with processed goo ranting

You cannot play conkers..play games of tiggy tag in the playground or even have a playground scrap without some jobsworthy interfering in normal kiddy's playtime - which ist part of our growing up und development. rolleyes

I think the country ist in a severe state of shocked apathy und unable to work out what ist really dangeoous as a result wink whistle of all these silly laws. wink

As for the 52 mph in the urban 40 mph dual carriageway - perhaps some of these roads need re-audit as regards speed limit - or a variable whereby a higher limit apply at "off-peak" times. wink

But the more dangerous situation was the missile chucking yob. He'd cause a collision at 10 mph if his missile hit or went through a windscreen. There was a young man in the Bolton press. He passenger in car. He hit when brick when through passenger door window. He brain damaged .. seriously so. At least the police did find this yob who got mere 3 years prison for this. Oh the speed? rolleyes It was built up residential - driver was no more than 20 mph max at any one time according to the story in the paper at the time

back to the initial topic.....the usual speed trap on the Northbound A26 is about 5km before Junction 6.

They park on the slip raod of the village called Verqigne and then radio ahead to the tolls which are just before junction 3.

Obviously no-one comes off at Junctions 6, 5 or 4 if they think there might be an issue!!

Not true at all - a policeman will use his discretion in such a scenario.

And a 'safety' partnership employee will count his shekels...

I've spent quite a bit of time on that road this year and have never understood why they sit so far away from the tolls with exits between them and the welcoming party!!

I guess a large amount of Brits are late for the ferry and have no option put to keep going!

Ferries are very frequent from Calais. If you miss one you get the next one. It's better than paying 90€.

The French speed enforcement system is a lot fairer than ours.

Our speed limit: 70 mph/113 km/h.

Their speed limit: 81mph/130 km/h on rural and dry sections, 67mph/110km/h on urban or when road surface is wet.

Our tolerance above speed limit: 10% + 2mph. so the realistic absolute speed limit is 79 mph/128km/h.

Their tolerance is 20km/h above speed limit except on the urban sections.

Realistically you can do 94 mph on a French motorway outside urban areas in dry conditions and not even worry about the BiB.

You can do up to 112 mph/180 km/h and still only risk a fixed penalty of €100.

At that speed in the UK you'd be looking at a ban.

We can only dream of such indulgence here in Authoritarian Blighty.

If you're speeding past le flic, here are your choices:

1. Get pulled, pay 90 euros, miss the ferry, get the next one.

2. Use the A roads, miss the ferry, get the next one.

BTW I missed the ferry but they put me on the next one free of charge.

"thuggery"
1 a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer.
2 (sometimes initial capital letter ) one of a former group of professional robbers and murderers in India who strangled their victims.

Were does a death caused by a car go from being an accident to Murder! or "thuggery"

Through Drink Driving / Drug, Speeding, Due Care etc

Interesting report from Spain which is looking at punishing speeders a lot harder

"Spain is preparing to jail drivers who speed excessively. Those who exceed the speed limit by 37mph in urban areas or 50mph on motorways face a mandatory prison sentence and will be jailed for three to six months" – Yorkshire Post NIB
