Bloody police tosser feckin coonts. Here's the story, went to buy a car from a fellow 8 miles away, after being told there was a bank where we(my partner and i) could take out money to pay the guy, turned out it was the wrong info, not our bank, anyway.Apologised to the guy selling the car and thought hey,we'll go into the next town and try there,he asked what bank i was with,i told him and he said we'll try there, there should be one.Just so happens the town we went to was one of the most popular harbour tourist spots in the east of Scotland, could not find a space, anywhere! My girlfriend was in our car,she got the 'one' space,i drove past her in car i was buying(seller following in his own car) and decided to park right on yellow lines right at the opening to a beach, not a bloody busy main road!Anyway,in the time it took me to go to the cashline 30 feet away and back police a-hole turns up,shaking his fecking head in that oh so condescending manner.Explained i was in a hurry, trying to get money to pay for this car i had just bought and didn't want to inconvenience the seller by making him wait any longer than possible,i parked right across from the bank as there were 'no spaces at all!!Smirked in the typical arrogant manner and said,"aren't those spaces up there",tt points to two spaces that had 'just' developed in the meantime in front of the one space my girlfriend had chosen,as if i was so bloody stupid i would drive past two legal spaces and for two minutes park on a double yellow??This prick wasn't having it,i visit this harbour constantly and park legally,it was just the hurry to try and give this guy selling the car his money and let him on his way!Seller was really genuine and offered to pay £20 of the fine!Top bloke!

Hello RUL.

You say it only took you a matter of seconds to get to the bank and back to the car?

And it that time the copper pulled up?

And when you returned to your car seconds later the copper was there and pointing to 2 spaces that had become vacant? So if you waited a metter of seconds when you got there, you would have had the choice of 2 spaces and no parking fine?

In my experience now-a-days, people are always in a rush to get places and they need to get there yesterday. As harsh as the copper was...if you weren't in such a rush you would have got a proper space and avoided a fine.

Now that i've given my opinion i'll offer some advise. My girlfriend used to work in a parking ticket office (yes...she was the enemy). If visitors came to Norwich and got a parking fine they would normally get let off the first time if they were not from the area. So maybe try that one?

However...it may not work because you were given a ticket by a copper. I'm not sure if you can dispute them or not. In Norwich the police dont give out parking fines...the council employ parking attendants.

Sounds like a good reason why not to go to Scotland wink

A shame that there were double yellows at a place where they perhaps ought not to be.. Sadly, you got caught.

Coppers did turn up in a matter of seconds, either it was coincidence,or someone from a shop nearby called them,no idea. These yellow lines were about 15 feet away from a gap in a wall where a beach started, between these yellow lines and the wall is just cobbles? You could have driven two cars passed me to get onto the beach,i wasn't obstructing anything!Just the policemans attitude pissed me off, can't they just give you a ticket without being so bloody smug?I had to bite my tongue when he mentioned the gaps that had just occured where he thought i 'should' have gone! This 'decision' to park on double yellow lines that people find so amusing here was a one option choice,it was that or nothing, the parking in the area is so non-existent,was i supposed to drive past the cash machine with my arm out the window of the car and maybe press two of my numbers for my cash card, then round the block and press the other two on the way past again etc etc?Yes and paragraphs boocks! You must be one of those people that lurks around forums and picks out people's spelling errors etc, sounds like fun!

Those yellow lines might be for lifeboat access in which case I am sure you will understand they can't be blocked.
Is that the case?

But Mark...if people need to get to the bank surely that is more important than emergency services getting to a drowning child? (sorry...sarcasm again!)

Unfortunately, and sadly, we are genuinely in a society these days where people flout the law EVERYDAY and get so used to doing it they they get miffed when someone finally tells them not to.

Women parking outside a local school near me (public enemy number 1!!!) picking up and dropping off their kids, have done so for many years now. Everyday, morning and afternoon, cars block the road and make it difficult for cars to pass and DANGEROUS for kids to cross ther road whilst dodging between parked cars and irate motorists. There are yellow lines along the entire stretch...but they may as well be replaced with the words 'Park on these lines'.
When a policeman came along and moved them on, nearly all of them felt genuinely hard done by because they 'have always parked here' and why cant they do it now? Err....BECAUSE THERE IS A YELLOW LINE THERE!!! GGrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I think that at the end of the day there is normally a reason we have laws and regulations put in place...and its normally because someone has taken then p*ss and ruined it for the rest of us.

I'm not saying that YOU did, but people do this all the time in my home town and my folks' village and, well, all over. Lazy bcensoredds ignoring spaces a mere 20-50m from the bank / newsagent / convenience store, just so they can park, on double yellows, right by the cashpoint etc. Happens at Sainsbury's nearby also, 'parking' right by the cashpoint when there's a whole carpark full of spaces, some only 20m or so away.
Lazy, ignorant, lazy, lazy tools!

So, you didn't, but copperbloke is probably sick to death of seeing people do it every day and hence unwilling to give you the benefit of the doubt?

Agree with majority of the above wink Consider it a payment for the benefit of parking where the rest of us are not allowed, so choose not to.

(And if it were only a nearby village, why the feck did you take three cars there???)
