what would the penalty be if the rozzers caught you clearing commuter traffic by using illegally installed flashing blue lights in your radiator grill? (and potentially with window wound down singing "pee pah, pee pah" )

I guess it might be imitating a police officer.

If only it were that simple, a scary number of drivers don't even notice a marked vehicle behind them with the works going. smile

Possibly committing offence contrary to vehicle lighting regs, suppose you'd probably be reported for summons to explain to magistrate rather than issued a fixed penalty given the obvious no no of blue flashing lights.

You could also be done for without due care etc were you using them to facilitate your progress in an inappropriate manner.

As long as you make sure no other bib are about you could prob get away with it for a while and if you have no previous all you will get if you are caught is a caution! Maybe worth it for a few weekday lie-ins!!

A caution is not likely.

Ok I'll 'fess up I used to have alternating flashing headlights on my old car, they were put in when I was using it as a safety car on track and i might possibly have flicked them on once or twice when twats did something daft, but never to clear traffic.

No. But mainly because I now have an alternate idea. I reckon if you drive like you're drunk then people will still clear out of the way without there risk of being caught imitating a coast guard. I saw a Vectra driver using this to great effect this morning.

Thats naughty.
I saw a TV programme where they watched a driver using fake Police lights on the motorway via CCTV and sent a car out to get them!

a mate used to have alternate flashing spots (normal white) in the grill of his defender, used occasionally to gain attention as he was lifeboat crew. they where used for a sec or two just to 'awaken' numpties in the way when on a shout.

Have seen a Ford Ka on the M40 in Warwickshire with alternate flashing coloured headlamps. I think they flashed red and yellow alternately.

The thing to remember is that you not only have to avoid the on duty police cars it's the off duty ones as well that you won't see.

If you overtook me on my way to work I would be very curious as to who was driving the new unmarked car and when we had got it. Or just who the eejit with the rubbish pretend blue lights was!!

LOL

I have allways wondered about this.

I'd personally love a set to give a quick flash to:

Middle lane hoggers!
Out side lane hoggers!
People that cut you up

I think if you were caught you'd get the book thrown at you. though. At least a massive fine and severe amounts of points. probably a ban. possible jail time?
