Traffic Light Cameras...going on amber?
Discussion
Went through a set of lights on amber yesterday, it was wet and I didn't feel it was safe to slow down so I slipped through before it went red. SatNav showed a traffic light camera there though, I'm guessing these things only do you if you go through on a red?
Likewise, can you leave them on an amber or do you have to wait for the green? As everyone seems to go on amber anyway...
Cheers

AFAIK the light has to be red for 0.9 secs before it triggers the camera so you will be fine (pardon the pun)Likewise, can you leave them on an amber or do you have to wait for the green? As everyone seems to go on amber anyway...

Dave.
if you went over and the picture show's amber then your fine..
I got flashed by a redlight camera going ove ron green once 15mph over speedlimit too (1am on a 40mph road) and thought it may have got me speeding but luckerly i never heard anything.
however if the lights show red in the picture then you would have to advise them of your situation and see wherfe you are in the picture to see if you can argue that you actualy went past the line on amber.

Amber on its own means stop. You can only proceed through if you have crossed the stop line or are so close to the stop line that to attempt to stop would cause an accident.Red and amber means stop. You must not proceed through until green is shown.

Do they only measure the speed of vehicles caught skipping lights or every car that goes over though?
They are only 'active' when the lights are red (and have been for about a second)..Snot said:
Also, do red light cameras flash just as GATSO's do?
Yes. And they take 2 photographs.http://insurance-claims.blogspot.com/2006/09/are-y...
I was looking for a pic of the old Ambler Gambler advert, y'know where there a 70's guy in an Allegro or something and then runs into an identical man in an identical car. Couldnt find it tho, obviously.
