I've posted this in P+P as well but wondered what response I'd get from the BiB in here

Story here

Could someone explain how taking a photo of a police car on a public road could be classed as terrorism?

you may have a dispensation to allow you to park in a bus lane

you do not have a dispensation to avoid being photographed in public

you are not the stasi

i think it's pretty clear that the guy was a bit of a twit - If I see a police car parked (wherever it may be) I just assume that it's attending a call and it's none of my business where it is...

However, once again we're seeing these new laws being used in a highly controversial manner, and that's just not on in my book...

They probably could, if not in those exact terms maybe. They could have ignored it completely of course but they didn't manage to do that either. Noooo, they had to question him under the terrorism act. Obviously. Nothing to hide, nothing to fear eh?

Apparently the police don't like being photographed whilst parked illegally. Join the club!!

Like nails, screws, tin tacks, sugar, weed-killer, tea bags and just about anything else you can think of, the word 'only' seems a little out of place. I fecking loathe this b'stard government - and I have no respect for any copper who just sits back, tips his cap and says 'thanks for all the nice new powers gov, that'll make my life easier'. You're supposed to be citizens first aren't you? Or are you already brownshirts in waiting?

Remarkably in none of the recent high-profile terrorist incidents did the terrorists take photos. Bruce Schneier's take on all this is excellent:-

I was arrested, at gun point, by 6 armed police officers (and 5 unarmed officers) for taking photos in Horse Guards Parade in May. This is nothing.

Out of interest and slightly o/t were you actually arrested at gun point or just by armed officers, there is a VERY big difference.

2 of the officers unholstered their glocks, and the guy with the mp5 was in a firing position (but not pointing at me) - I noticed later that he had his gun set to single shot...

Why, who would have thought they'd use such laws for erroneous purposes.

I thought they could only do this "on the fly" in designated area's such as ports and airports .

I have also been stopped many times on these insane new powers , just really annoys me if they have all these powers why cant then use them on people who carry knives etc ...not on just happy go lucky paying tax middle England , who have to go to very strange places.

Dont forget after 1 hour you can have tea !

And dont forget to ask for the record , if they want to delay me for hours then I will have payback driving them nuts for hours trying to find reports. ( ask for the report a few weeks later !! ) .

People get paid for keeping records.
They get paid the same whether you ask for yours or not.
I am sorry to say they aren't going to worry one way or the other.
Still, if that is 'payback' in your eyes, carry on!
