Police plan to use hidden speed cameras
This week the police have stepped up their war on the motorist.
John Reynolds, Chairman of Cambridgeshire Police Authority said: "If motorists succeed in outsmarting speed traps their reward could be hidden cameras."
Mr Reynolds questioned the devices being painted bright yellow and putting them in visible places.
Comparing speeding motorists to drug dealers and rogue traders Reynolds said:
"If people do not abide by the law then those that legislate may decide to take action."
Car Parts Direct, the company that market the Quintezz XT7000 Radar detection system has seen a huge upsurge in business. They offer a £60-Cashback guarantee for anyone caught speeding by a Gatso camera or laser gun.
Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct said: "The £60 Cash-back is great for the customer. It demonstrates our 100% belief in the product. Sales of the Quintezz have increased 20 fold in the last few weeks. At the same time the integrity of the police has taken a severe bashing. This is all down to the misuse of speed cameras."
No licence means no car. No job. No income and no dropping the kids off at school. No shopping trips and no weekends away. Some people live in fear of another three points.
Cornwall went on to say: "Even if they hide cameras it will make no difference. They can run but they can’t hide. If the camera can find you - fit a Quintezz and you’ll find it first."
If John Reynolds gets his way the cameras will be invisible. Sales of the Quintezz will be banned - and we’ll need to live on a bus route.
Police are on target to issue over 3 million speeding tickets this year. If you would like to avoid a fine and improve the chances of keeping your driving licence check out the £199 Quintezz XT7000Plus radar detector at www.carparts-direct.co.uk or call their mail order line 0870 0110291.
Are these systems legal?
IMHO I think its getting totally out of hand. The attitude the police have adopted is just causing a greater void between drivers and the BiB.
We are now as bad as "drug dealers and rogue traders". So I'm compared to a lunatic selling class A drugs to kids am I? Next I will get a criminal record for travelling at 45 mph in a 40 mph zone.
Apologies if seen before.

So, is it a detector or a laser jammer? If it's not a jammer, how can they offer the guarantee? Is it just a loss leader?

if this is regarding the article in 'nuts' magazine (the mag for bullshat)dated 9-15th april then i doubt if anyone has anything to worry about. the picture of the so-called 'camera' looked like an ever-ready rear light for a pushbike mounted inside a bit of swollen plastic....not convincing at-all and thats just one shot of the thing, the other shot makes it look like the outer ring of a car version of an aircraft fuel filler with a lightbulb shoved in the center.....those are from just looking at the thing.....as for the supposed spokesman saying "any new cameras are subject to home office approval and these dont SOUND like they would meet the criteria" would suggest that the person knew absolutely naff all about these things.
afaik its a load of old bollocks.

I might be being thick here, but won't hiding them stop the "safety" aspect (i.e. them making people slow down), without affecting the radar jammers, which presumably will still jam radar ?
Of course it will stop any claimed (but unproven) "safety" aspect, but "safety" was only ever an excuse for revenue as most people know.
Reynolds is just getting spiteful and throwing his toys out of his pram.

I'm afraid not, this was an official press release only 2 days ago.
They've started!!
yesterday, A14, just outside cambridge what looked like a fella fixing the railing turned out to be fella sat on stool with what looked like the guts of a speed camera van on a tripod in front of him, no van in sight..
And this a couple of weeks after they are announced as being almost at the bottom of the speed camera revenue tables...
