I have my car on a classic policy and so the comparison site that issued it, now has sent me very competitive renewal offers BUT I just noticed they all have '1 year's NCD' on them.

I was under the impression classic car insurance does not give NCD....but I suppose I could get it confirmed I made no claims.

I am thinking it is best to re-run the quotes on zero NCD. I tried calling the insurer but could not get past the queue.

But what say ye?

Stay on hold. The insurer is the only one who can give a proper answer here.

I can't see how a company can say you have or haven't earned a year's no claims

If you haven't claimed you have a years no claims, whether or not another company accepts that is up to them. But the fact that you have a year's no claims is irrefutable

Its up to the new insurer to recognise and award any bonus for no previous claims - BUT they will need proof of no claims (and the time period) from the previous insurer.

I have never had NCD awarded on any Agreed-Value Classic policy in the past, but I never found an A-V policy on any of the comparison sites. Things must have changed.

I would re-run the quotes without NCD.
You may find it makes little or no difference.

But some insurers take into account how long you've owned a vehicle when assessing the premium. among other factors.

Supposedly my Trade insurance NCD doesn't apply to private policies but if I call I can always fomd someone who will give me 3 or 5 years NCD because of it

The same as I can mirror it on multiple policies

The only issue is you can't do it online

I'll always get multiple quotes online for varying amounts of discount. Then when I'm talking to someone I know where I want to end up, price wise

If they don't give any bonus for claim free driving, but just base the premium on other factors, then they don't allow any bonus. If asked if the policyholder earned any no claims bonus, the correct answer is NO.

He may have been claim free for x number of years, but didn't earn any no claims bonus. He'd have to find a company what would give him ncb based on previous claim free driving, and who didn't ask for proof of a bonus he never got.

I insured a second car 911 turbo s.

Was cheaper than my Cayenne ! I have nil no claims on the turbo s.

I am not convinced that no claims is actually real when you get to a certain age ( I am 59).

Claims can increase the premium yes but the no Claims discount does not really seem real. If it was then with full no claims the turbos s would be £400 which gen the Cayenne with full no claims is £1100 makes no sence at all

Probably why I ended up working for 42 years in an industry that brought me into daily contact with the motor insurance world.

Many classic car policies are flat rated. If you're over 25, your car is over 30 years old or whatever their criteria is, it's garaged, you have another car for daily use, and do under 5k miles a year, you have no serious convictions, and 6 or less points, and no more than 2 claims in the last 5 years, and your car is valued up to £40K, your premium is £80. If it's £40-60K, it's £120. And so on. No bonus, no other discounts or loadings.

You can be claim free for 10 years, and you'll still have not earned a no claims bonus.
