Was on the M40 northbound a bit South of Warwick and two new looking red Transit vans went past in lane 3 about 90, but with ‘concealed’ lights on front grill & back window. Seemed a bit too specialist for usual Police stuff? Just curious if any thoughts on who would use them?

I recall some 20 years ago the met started to use red and silver cars rather than white because they were cheaper (higher resale value i think). It might just be a case of that?

To be fair to the OP, I would be interested in this sort of thing, though if peoplewant to think of this as a local facebook page for motoring related law stuff then no-one can stop them.

Some organisations have blue lights but can't break the speed limit. So it rules out blood type volunteers.

Fire would see obvious given the colour, but I'm not sure why firemen would want to travel around covertly in minibuses - maybe to fight covert fires?

Leicestershire have a dark grey unmarked T6 Transporter that has one of those pull out awning things bolted to the side. Seems like they use all sorts.

How long was the queue behind them?

The police in Northern Ireland have been using them because it's easier to see car drivers on their phones.

Red Police vehicles have been in London for 50 years

They belong to the Diplomatic protection teams and are red so that they are immediately identifiable to members of the diplomatic community

Yes, in the early 00's they did start buying silver cars, it didn't last as fixing metallic paint and the fact that they were shagged ex police cars meant they weren't any more cost effective
