Hidden camera van?

Saw this on FB this morning.
No it wasn't me. No I wasn't on the motorway in question. No I am not trying to get out of speeding.

Simply curious as to 1) is that van in a fair location and 2) is the FB poster correct in his statement?

I'm not sure about the answer to the question - if you're validly caught speeding on a public road, I don't see how you can use the location of the camera van as a get-out.

However in this particular case, the location is here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8TajgEezc1txQt9P8
And that location appears to be within the same Land Registry title as the M42 so I don't think it's private land in any case.

Our A19 is plagued by the van, and recently seen rather rudely hiding too. Often in the middle of this bridge, now hidden

I doubt he is on private property, surely the private property starts at the gate?

Also, I assume the "target area" has signage to warn drivers anyway, so I doubt it is illegal IMHO.

Regardless of the legality, the location is rather sneaky and rather "Gendarmerie".

Looks like they've stumbled across that makeshift location and decided it would be the ideal trap, rather than position themselves in a more conventional location.

Cue the inevitable replies.

I think the question which needs answering before any legalities are discussed is whether the van was actually working or if the operator had found a gateway to park in and have their lunch.

1. If it can see traffic and is not posing a danger then that is all the 'fairness' required. Your "fair" is presumably related to being able to see the enforcement so you can slow down on approach and then exceed the speed limit where no enforcement is observed. That kind of fairness isn't a requirement.

You are going to have to narrow it down quite a bit there, that is a very large number.

I've noticed recently a lot more officers with speed guns partly hidden. Passed one last week on a plain bike which was parked behind a tree and the officer with a speed-gun stood next to it.

They do seem to be getting more crafty.

While not the letter of the law, speeding (in the UK) is supposed to be policed by unspoken rules, where decent observation means you get away with it.

No one is going to see that van. Wtf!

Of course the operator might just be parked up for his lunch break.

44 in a 30 off memory.
