DIFFUSER USER CAUGHT
Tuesday 11th February 2003
Users of laser jammers have always been operating on the wrong side of the law but the gadgets have not been the subject of any legal action - until now.
A driver Wales had been clocked speeding a number of times but on each occasion the precise speed was unobtainable. Police caught up with the driver and found a laser diffuser fitted to his car.
There's no law specifically outlawing the diffuser. The motorist concerned has being charged with perverting the course of justice and has admitted the offence.
A spokesman for the local Safety Camera Partnership commented "The use of such devices is extremely dangerous as it gives the motorist licence to drive at inappropriate speeds, putting the safety of other road users at risk".
