Sold my R500 sequential as it was a bit hardcore for the road with the gearbox whine. I know a 620 isn’t a quiet mouse …. but wanna try one.

So, how do I visually check if the cooling mod has been done to the engine at birth or later? Anyone know what it looks like or is it possible to see?

Thanks

Hi, the majority of the upgrades have been carried out by the independent Caterham specialists. Try calling pgmsussex.com they will be able to assist you with advice on what to check as to whether the cooling upgrade has been carried out.
May also be worth checking also whether the upgraded ecu and fuel pressure modification was carried out as well. That certainly makes a worthwhile improvement to how the engine performs. Good luck with your prospective purchase!

Were they factory mods the fuel and ECU?

Hi Familymad,

No, the fuelling mod and ECU mod are caried out after-market. PGM/NMS did mine nearly four years ago now and I've no complaints.
The cooling mod (or there version of it),is now also done by Caterham. I 'Think' that Caterham use a plastic housing now and PGM modify the aluminium housing, so that maybe one way to tell if it's a 'Factory' done one. As I say, it's been a while since i looked in to it.

There is a 620 owners group on Facebook if you use it and they have a lot of useful information.

Kind Regards, DD33

You happy with yours? Went to see this one yesterday and it’s lovely. Still on original tyres (will change those!) and clearly road use only.

Hi Familymad
Just had a glance at the pictures on the website that you attached. Unfortunately there aren't any with the bonnet removed so I can;t tell whether either of the upgrades have been carried out. Judging by the description they stated that it is 310bhp so I doubt that the ecu has been updated as it would have resulted in a bhp increase. The majority of upgrades by Partridge Green Motorsport normally had both carried out together though. If you need any advice just give them a call. As for your comment on the tyres did you look at the dates on them? The Avon ZZs's are out of production at the moment so unless they are exceptionally old, assuming they are not damaged or excessively worn i would hang on to them.
Kind regards RedCat.

I love it, and sometimes hate it but it's the longest I've kept a car. I normally get bored and want something else.

It's had a few issues but theses are more 'Seven' things rather than 620 things. I would definitely budget for the cooling and fuelling mods though.
Worth checking the radiator for leaks. This seems to be a Duratec engined issue.
When I bought mine from Caterham they said although it has more HP than an R500 it's a more linear power delivery so less intimidating to drive.
I can't comment as I've not driven a R500. I went out in one but it was over 10 years ago.

The car above looks good. Odd that there are no under bonnet pictures.
I think it was DT I nearly bought a car from. Another guy bought it before I had chance to view it. It was a mint green 420. He posted on here quite regularly about it - Max-Wilde was his user name.

Good luck in your search.

I went to see it and underbonnet is as good as the rest of it. Low miles and Lowe ownership but had 7 services. Tom was a lovely guy who I met there. It’ll get a major service and MOT before leaving.
