Seven Speed Sequential...

From Quaife
It's quite light too.

It's on the shelf now. Reasonably priced too, I thought.

I agree - I'd seriously be after a 68G - good old fashioned H-pattern synchro box, but see they don't list it any more... I will stick to my quiet 6 Speed and BMW Diff in my new R500 thanks!!

They don't mention if it's helical or straight cut though do they.
I'd assume it's helical like the 6 speeder.
I actualy like the sound of a straight cut box. The mechanical noises are part of the experience for me.
But then I spend a big part of my life in a yacht engine room, and I'm half deaf anyway.
eh?

Mick, they will probably offer both versions.I'd assume it's helical like the 6 speeder.

eh?My white R500 had a straight cut version fitted here:
http://www.quaife.co.uk/qbe60g
That was the only version cc supplied at first with the R500.
However later on you could specify the helical version, which if I recall correctly Peter Heaton had in his green R500
That version is here:

I am sure the price will be close to £6k with tax!
Thanks for that Nigel. I'm still erring on the side of a Drenth though, but I'll consider them all when I'm finaly ready to buy.
Hewland have also recently introduced a 6 speed in line sequential, but I haven't researched that yet.
Subirg, Nigel wasn't far off. £5695.00 excluding taxes.

No probs Mick, I think I would chose a sadev if I was looking for sequential in a Caterham next time.Hewland have also recently introduced a 6 speed in line sequential, but I haven't researched that yet.

On the subject of cost, £5695 with tax is closer to £7000!

Crikey! It is isn't it!
I've heard the Sadev is very rattley (spelling?) at idle in neutral.
Yep is it just me that still "feels" that we pay VAT at 15%, and choose to just not think about 20%!!I've heard the Sadev is very rattley (spelling?) at idle in neutral.
Of course you have had your taxes put up in Spain now too Mick, so it seems we all have to pay more to the "G Man" theses days.
I have been in a few cars with the Sadev sequential, and whist being quite noisy, its was nothing compared to my old straight cut Quaiffe!
But I am happy with my standard 6 Speed, so won't be changing any time soon!!!

Not yet, but it looks like it's going up three points to 21%
More reason to buy my bits from the U.K. for me than, as it'll be cheaper.
At least that's what I'll tell the Missuss.

So when does the rate increase then?
We are off on our holidays to Fueurterventura on the 1st August , so will we get the rate rise applied to us then?

Getting quite used to the noise now, just have to turn the TV up a little these days...Of course you have had your taxes put up in Spain now too Mick, so it seems we all have to pay more to the "G Man" theses days.

Well done that man, glad you are still having fun!!mind you I don't miss having to put ear plugs in for every trip these days, or saying "What - Pardon?" to people for an hour after getting out of the car!!

That's a juicy lump of £££. Not really an easy trade up investment to justify - or is it? On a track like Spa, which takes around 2min 45secs in an R400D, how much lap time would this be worth? On the subject of cost, £5695 with tax is closer to £7000!

The Sadev is near silent compared to the quaiffe or elite boxes.I've heard the Sadev is very rattley (spelling?) at idle in neutral.
Are you sure you are hearing the box at idle and not a clutch / release bearing. I have a Adev in a westfield and it is near silent.
By far the best sequential for the money. Combine with a geartronics flatshifter and it is superb.
My sadev does rattle at idle in neutral, but does it matter?
Its not totally quiet on the move either, but it is smoother in terms of changing gear than the two Quaife units I tried before, one helical, one straight cut.
Sevens are so noisy anyway, and it's hard to hear anything over engine noise in my car so I don't care if the box or diff is noisy.
Would certainly like to experience a car with a Drenth in it!

You can try mine Mike, if ever I finish it before we both die!
I have actualy seen my car today for the first time in three months!
Work has been hectic, (Yachting season now) I lost the use of the garage, so I had to move it 60km away, and the Guys making my rear brakes moved into larger premises, and lost a month of production. They've had my parts since January.
I should see some activity soon though.
The good news is, the Nuvite is such good stuff, the car's still very very shiney. :-)
Like you Mike, I don't mind the car being noisey. it's all part of the experience.
