Why are there so few 125 Sigmas on the market?

Guys, I d be interested to hear any of our thoughts on why there are so few Sigma engined cars on the second-hand market. It might be a silly question but I’ve been watching and researching the market in readiness for a purchase next year (hopefully)and honing in on a spec, but can’t recall seeing one early (07-08) 125bhp Sigma Roadsport. I see there is a new ad for an 09 at £18.5K which seems a bit steep (?), but I’m intrigued to know what price a very good standard (07-08)125 would be.

All I can say is I have a 125 Sigma, and it is a great car for mainly road use. Really good fun, very economical, so I'm planning to keep it as long as I can

I have heard of at least one owner who wasn't satisfied with the 125 performance, upgraded to 150 and was disappointed with the engine in that tune, so sold it to buy a duratec engined Seven. If more people are doing that, it might explain why there might be more 150s on sale.

Ditto downsman's post. I have the bigger heavier SV model with a Sigma 125, and it's great fun on the road. It's not so much floor it and blast past everything with complete ease, but you certainly don't hold back using the performance, and plan your entry and exit points to maintain momentum. I know that this is still done with the higher powered engines, and I admit, I initially wanted a 175 duratec, but having driven the 125, I was smitten. It seemed to suit the car so well.

I've not actually driven the higher powered 7s, my closest is a ~200bhp Westfield, which was brutal by comparison, and I always felt I had to hold back from using all of the car's performance.

I think the owners of the 125 7s just enjoy them so much!

It could even be that they're just snapped up quickly when they do appear on sale.

I'd say the prices are high because of how much Caterham are charging for them used, and I assume people base their asking price on that. I don't think Caterham have any Sigma engined cars for less than £19/20k - or they certainly didn't when I looked.

There's two or three decent ex-academy cars on the 'Track/Race' section. That would be my first port of call. Better value.

Thanks Guys, incidentily framerateuk I've been reading your threads re your new purchase and you alluded to getting your black 7 below the £18k asking price which is giving me hope for a sensibly priced/specced 125bhp sigma, albeit potentially still out of reach even then, in which case it'll be K series. Although I have a little time to sell more family jewels perhaps. Thanks and if anyone else has a view on the lack of sigmas.....

Mine was pretty highly specced too (it's almost a Superlight in all but engine).

I'm convinced if you wanted a standard Roadsport 125 you'd be able get get one for less than I paid.

I still don't understand how mine wasn't snapped up before!

Built my 125 sigma roadsport from a kit. Five years on the road & just shy of 20K miles & it's never missed a beat. Still love it.
