My current (official Caterham items) are shot.

What new one's to buy? Seem's that you can get some for £40 each on eBay. JJC?

The car lives outside 24/7, so I'm after some quality units. My current ones seem to have been affected by the sun and rain.

Quite a few Caterham carbon manufactures these days.

Whichever ones you get, have them clearcoated. It's the UV's that break down the epoxy. that's why a lot of the carbon stuff goes milky/de-laminates.

Do you need to check that the clearcoat contains UV absorbers?

When I say clear coat, I meant the two component clear laquer used on cars, that's normly applied over a base colour.
Yes in is UV resistent

How much weight could you shave off a Caterham if you REALLY went for it. I think we all know that carbon or imitation light fittings aren't going to change the world (and the part isn't structural and you could get more weight saving with a bit of filing and drilling, but...

If you really went to town, how light could a Caterham be made?

(I also reckon that a decent diet would outweigh all the potential carbon fibre benefits that I could put on my car...)

Like I said, they do the job & £23 is £3 less than a pair of plastic ones from Caterham. I'm sure I can live with all that extra weight. Apologies for interupting this thread.

Mike, I'm with you here. These types of things are made in small volumes and the price is whatever you and the seller thinks is fair, so you aren't interrupting someone else's thread.

As I was suggesting, the weight loss is negligible, but if it looks good, then groovy. I have carbon fibre guards on the rear wing and as sill protectors (black pack), and it looks nice. I also love the carbon fibre dash with the superlight switches, and I would choose it because it looks nice, and not because it would make my car go faster. It makes zero difference to my car's peformance. Like many owners, I could best benefit from a combination of driver training and a diet.

Cheers mate, I've started a bit of a re-vamp on mine; carbon fibre cycle wings & rear guards (real ) but spending £40 each for matching indicator pods seemed a little OTT for my needs, but each to their own.Next job will be to get the windscreen done in black then that'll be it for this year. Next year maybe a respray?

As said above, it's about the look, not the weight.
Although a glassfiber nose cone is quite heavy compared to a carbon one, on a road car it'll make bugger all difference.
My comment about fake is just my personal thing. If I wanted carbon, I'd rather have the real thing. I just think the fake carbon thing is a bit cheesy, but each to their own
If you want to shave off weight, unsprung weight and rotational inertia is where it's at
