Problem with filling petrol- IVA flap removal

When I first got the car most petrol nozzles simply would not go into the car's filler neck. The problem is that the SVA/IVA filler flap gets in the way and shuts off the supply of fuel from the pump.

A simple job, as long as you are sensible regarding working in the vicinity of petrol vapour/fumes.

The link below takes you through the pictures to grind out the offending filler flap. You will need a Dremil-like grinder and some time on your hands. Once done, all filler nozzles fit with ease.

It is not a valve to stop fuel comming out in the case of an accident, nor is an MOT check.

If like me, you were too tight to pay extra for the aero filler and have the plastic one, there is no problem getting the nozzle in anyway.

Wondered where the interest in was coming from 385 views yesterday So long as your sensible, garage door open and DON'T do the grinding over the tank you'll be OK.

I thought they would have changed the filler by now.

Totally agree with you. It worked for me, simply followed the photos. Interesting that it got 385 views from this post on PH.

I couldn't be bothered doing this. A simpler method is to use the plastic fuel filler insert from a Halfords emergency fuel can and fit the fuel nozzle into that to refill. I carry it around in the car with me and it works just fine.

Another one for the plastic nozzle method!! I did contemplate removing the flap but found the nozzle effective enough and never bothered removing the flap.
