Just been playing with Vbox stuff and wondering if anyone has gone through fun of this before Caterham wise - in particular making a scene look a bit 'Caterham' esque. I used some of the base dials (black chrome) and dont look too bad but was hoping someone had gone to trouble of creating Caterham elements. Spent a few hours last night watching alot of videos of people with Caterhams and others and nicked some ideas too.
Ah good point guess it doesnt make any sense to anyone that doesnt have one. A VBox Lite http://www.videovbox.co.uk/index.php/en/component/... captures footage from cameras/other inputs and allows you to create a scene.
A scene is just an overlay on top of the video which allows you to do something like http://i2.createsend1.com/ei/r/85/CC1/5A7/005113/i... and ideally if anyone has the caterham dials etc.. already done they can easily be exported. I got it already plumbed into the car so spending time trying to make it all look good with a (hopeful) Caterham twist.

Andy, I'm sure you've seen the ones I made( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7Qo-eX95c0 ). I lost the scene but you're welcome to the .png files if you want them. I just took photos of the dials, needles, and graphics then used photoshop to cut them out and save them in the right size and format. It's great fun but once the novelty wears off you'll find less is more. I also found micro module didn't work very reliably.

They're silver - the Caterham sales team got me at a weak moment! Standard are black and I'm still not sure about whether I like them or not.DCL said:

I have to say, that was a fantastic video to watch!I really enjoyed seeing the brake and throttle meters, especially when you were taking it easy on the first lap - and then seeing the difference when you gave it full throttle afterwards!
Great battle with the Atom too! You didn't make it easy for him, he obviously had the legs in the straights though.

Seems a good way of combining your existing camera with an external logging device.

I use RaceRender regularly to combine multiple cameras (Sony/GoPro/Drift/MD12/POV/etc) with data from my GPS logger. An example is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detail...Seems a good way of combining your existing camera with an external logging device.
It also allows multiple cameras to be merged - like this one where a few of us were debating lines at our local track and we wanted to see who had the fastest line in each corner:

Dashware is a similar software option except can only handle 1 video input to merge with data whereas RaceRender handles multiple video inputs and data (e.g. 6 videos and 1 data feed in my example above)
This is my Race Technology equivalent, using a 1080p camera with data-overlay. Make sure you up the resolution.

looking really good jeff the racelogic/vbox suffers from interlacing that I need to post process (think they say use VLC) but I just find any of the overlay absolutely fascinating as it puts some real context as to what is happenning during a drive.

VLC works but youtube does a better job at sorting it out. Vbox interlace technology is really out of dated now and there are some cracking HD camera about, although the rolling shutter types can be a bit wobbly. It won't be long before fully shuttered broadcast technology reaches the domestic market. Edited by Andy Bell on Wednesday 13th March 14:46

I need to remove the central mirror for a better view. The camera is a 1080p bullet and I'm using a DL1 datalogger which now allows full 1080p with overlays using the new 8.5 version of Race Technologies software.
The video is of a charity day last year at Snetterton with my son (James, 14) out on track for the first time. The car is a Supercharged Zetec engined Phoenix so 330-340BHP with 630Kg.
