R500 Duratec Noise Levels
Discussion
Hi Folks
I am taking my 2013 R500 Duratec to Croft on Monday next week and I am slightly concerned by the noise limits. It is a 'noisy' day with 105dba static and 92dba driveby limts. The car has a decat pipe fitted and has the exposed foam pipercross filter. It makes quite a racket!
Does anyone have any idea of what kind of noise levels you would expect from this car?
I had it at knockhill last week and there was no issues, however they werent testing!
I had planned to buy the carbon airbox from Caterham but they are out of stock.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Should think you will be alright on the static, but may have some issue on the drive-by if you are full throttle/high revs.
My 2011 R500 Duratec is around 101 dBA static, but it does have a cat. As mine is an SV (I know, fat boy) the bonnet covers the foam filter, so the induction noise isn't horrific.
I've never been to Croft, but is there any opportunity to identify where the drive-by noise meters are prior to going out?

you will be fine on static check , I have the same car and induction is pretty loud, Ive fitted the carbon filter cover and it does help but it still makes a racket, might be worth noting that the drive by noise meter is on the exit of sunny out so if you careful you will be fine. ;-)
Ps. who is the trackday with and is there any spaces left ? I could do with getting on track with mine, I"ve not been out yet this year!.

There are two versions of carbon airbox for the R500 Duratec.
The 'track day' quiet one here: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/category.php?id_cat... sticks out through the hole in the bonnet but the air intake is completely beneath the bonnet up near the coolant header tank near the bulkhead. It makes a substantial difference to drive by noise and is all I have needed on track, not that I've tried it at Croft.
The other type 'Air Filter Cover - Race' sits over the top of the Pipercross foam filter and also sticks out through the bonnet hole but the intake on this one is a slot around the top of the airbox so is entirely outside the bonnet and is noisy as a result here: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/category.php?id_cat... .
I have a new, still in the poly bag, 'track day' carbon airbox available if you are interested. You will also need a conical air filter to fit on the end, K & N I think but I guess Caterham will probably have one if not. Drop me a PM on here and I can send you some pics. Will be at the kitcar show at Stoneleigh at the weekend if you are going or know aomebody who is?
