Set about putting some anti rattle plates in my standard brakes today as they were missing and the occasional rattle was annoying me! Found one fairly sticky piston and one seized. Looked at some upgrades and there appears to be a HiSpec kit for about £300 through bigbrakes4u.co.uk Alternatively the standard caliper is available from a classic car supplier for 55 quid new. After some searching some owners mentioned brake imbalance with upgraded fronts. Car is a 1994 1400 supersport, mainly road with some track use.
Just looking for any opinions re the upgrade kit and brake imbalance issues. I am not really looking to spend £600 on the well known upgrade routes as the standard brakes are pretty good, but 4 Kg less unsprung weight is appealing!!

HiSpec calipers have been reported by others as being a bit flimsy and flexing.
The imbalance is not severe and if it does cause you issue a bias valve in the rear lines is relatively inexpensive. the other thing to consider is that with Caterham'a AP kit the disc is quite a bit larger, so more braking torque as well as increased pad area.
I know that for Westfields, you can get a Wilwood kit from Rally Design for about £250 using the Wilwood Powerlite caliper. These are available for solid or vented discs. Pad area is smaller than the AP kit.

Thanks for the info. I had a westy before and fitted the wilwood kit, was about the price you mentioned. Unfortunately kit now seems to be upwards of £500 for a Caterham. AP is more again and the replacement discs are 300 quid!! I didn't think the bias issue should be too bad in most situations and should be rectified by some upgraded rear pads. I'll keep investigating for now!
