What colour do you like or have?
Can't decide what colour to have in a SuperSport. It's coming down to these two at the moment...

I don't think the classic BRG looks right on a SuperSport with modern anthracite wheels, matt black lights (the silver windscreen doesn't look right on this one, should be black to match the rest IMHO). BRG is also too light, a darker green is nicer (as it looks in the picture actually, after eight mints box colour!) Caterham don't do vintage green anymore, I don't if it was darker than BRG, they call it Caterham Green now...

Metallics of a type were out in at least 1950 when the Jaguar XK120 was launched for instance. Amazing metallics go back that far and maybe further...

I have had mostly yellow and of course white r400 and r500 versions before.
I was undecided in green,Mand did not want the standard caterham green with yellow stripe.
However when caterham released this limited edition colour scheme and I had a chance to look at it in the flesh I went for it!
The green really has to be seen in real, life to appreciate how shiny the metallic green is, and of course the white and yellow sets it off well.
Not sure if they cc still offer that paint scheme though?
I am sure if you asked nicely and paid the readies they would oblige!
Metallics have been around a long time, but they also come in and out of fashion. I bought my first Caterham in 1998 and solid colours were the norm, mine was red. Then the fashion swung to yellow, then to Mango orange, then variations on silver and grey, now white.
Have a look at the differing models on www.thecaterhamregister.net and you'll notice how the "colour fashion" has changed with the era of the models.
The car you've shown is Nigel's R500TL - the "Team Lotus" (now Caterham) green is metallic and much darker than would have been normal 10 to 15 years ago, in fact one local owner to me had a dark green car and it looked completely odd, now it looks fantastic. On the orange theme, Mango Orange is old hat and the newer cars are better in a metallic like the Focus RS. Even white now works better on the Caterham as a metallic.

I don't find my green too dark actually though!
I needs to seen in good light, that shows off the metallic!
I like a darker green, metallic or otherwise. They had one like yours Nigel in the Caterham South showroom a couple of months ago - very nice...
Maybe orange is going out of fashion a bit - quite a few in this picture...

Thanks for the link V7SLR, found one of the cars I covert at the moment if I don't go Supersport.
Same car (Beaulieu No8) but lighter in this pic and not as nice IMHO.
Think once I have driven a 140 SV SuperSport(maybe today!) this will make my mind up over the Vauxhall 100 BHP - nice chrome and webbers though
and I could get a nice bike for the money saved... er and a boat, new daily drive, etc.

colour is a very personal thing and as said fashionable, Browns are back in at the mo as they were back in the 70"s even Porsche are marketing there demo cars in metallic brown.
10 years ago I painted 2 of my 7s in the special effect Flip colours going from green to purple and one from silver to green which were the rage at the time but I wouldnt want that colour today, my current car is Frozen white which was been the colour to buy the last 3 years, again rewind 10 years and you couldn't raffle a white car!!!
there is some nice metallic colours but my prob with them on a factory caterham is that pretty much every Caterham i have seen if metallic the bonnet and scuttle is off shade to the tub, I actually repainted my Csr as I couldnt live with it! darker colours wont show the shade difference as bad and silvers are the worst for it, Im guessing when they are painted the bonnet scuttle and nose are painted off the car hence the difference shade where as with metallics the adjacent panels should be painted together, as air pressure and coat thickness will alter the shade slightly as will the amount of clear Lacquer applied.
this was my Csr the colour was night and day.
it came from the factory like that as here is the review of the car when it was brand new!(2nd pic down)the bottom pic they even do a close up to show how bad it was
think If i had bought it new and spent £40+k I would have fired it back!

Colour is a very subjective thing and very personal....so you will get every colour under the sun recommended if you wait long enough :-) .... my advice ....something bright.
I drove a dark blue (Imola Blue) Caterham for 10 years and when I was looking to upgrade, bright colour was high on my list...was looking for yellow with black pack but ended up with Orange with Black Pack and am very pleased.
The main reason was visibility (although I do also like the look of garish colours on 7's)...over the 10 years in dark blue I had a few scarey moments with people pulling out on me as they hadn't seen me. Not had the same problem in 3 years of bright orange :-)

Gulf blue.
Mine *should* be orange. My motorbikes were always orange, my new MTB will be custom painted orange but unfortunately it seems every man and his dog has their 7 painted orange.
If/when I do repaint this 7 I have an idea which will have orange in it but the car won't be predominately orange.
