Premier Power Open Day this Sunday.
Discussion
Anyone going up from around Junc 8, M25 area. I can't sail this weekend with my daughters birthday so wouldn't mind a Blat up in a Caterham or I can drive and pick someone up. There doesn't seem to be anything on Blatchat.
PP bought a Supersport starter kit then dropped one of their engines in. From talking to them last week you seem to get a bit more BHP for the money in comparison to Caterham. Have to say I am a big girls blouse when it comes to messing about with engines, e.g. are they squeezing to much out, how long will it last etc. I have always preferred bigger less stressed engines with torque and maybe a Turbo, I'm not used to high reving motors apart fom on a Yamaha XJR 1300.
"On Display will be several of our customers road, track and race cars. There will also be a chance to sample the F175 and F200 Sigma upgrades with Passenger rides in two Caterhams. Interested visitors are asked to register for the event via the website, www.premierpowerengines.com "

Question whilst on topic.
Why squeeze 200 BHP from a 1.6 when you can maybe more comfortably get 200+ from the Duratec. See shows how little I know about all this apart from the 15KG weight advantage with the Sigma but does it make that much difference, the monster Caterhams have the heavier Duratec!
PP's Duratec range http://www.premierpowerengines.com/products/2.0Dur...
I wonder how they differ to Caterhams Duratec range with regards to components/mapping etc.

Morning Zagster,
Thanks for starting this thread.
There have been some interesting points made on here the last few days.
Regarding points made on Sigmas and Duratecs, until recently there was a big jump between a top spec Sigma car and an entry level Duratec car. Owners of Sigma cars that wanted to convert their cars to Duratec would have seen that financially it wasn't really a viable option once you've taken all the conversion costs into account. What we've developed are three upgrades that put Sigma performance in a similar performance window to the Duratec product range.
On the subject of engine weights, the 15kgs difference in weight is between a 2.0 Duratec and 1.6 (125bhp)Sigma. What we offer as standard fitment on all our upgrades is to lower the Sigma engine weight by 5.25kgs with the option to lighten it a further 2.75kgs (that's a total of 23kgs lighter than the 2.0 Duratec). This greatly improves the driveability of the engine, making it rev more easily. The reason we have gone down this route is that Caterham produce cars at a price. What we are offering is taking the engine, that step further and giving the engine a more "sporty" feel. Obviously this comes at a price but this work has come about having attended many club events and listening to Sigma owners as well as reading many magazine reviews on these cars.
I understand the Sigma Supersport 140 is a nice engine but again this this has been done at price. Without super charging, this is about as far as you can go with standard induction and alot of other parts.
On the subject of durability and reliability, our three spec have all been developed following many hours of testing on dynos, rolling roads, roads and race tracks. The question of reliability is often raised but with our experience of racing these engines I have to say these modern engines are a massive improvement over earlier generation engines. We have used these engines in Formula Ford for six years or more and have not had one component failure. Some of the over-revs we've seen with the Sigma would have meant bits and pieces with previous engines. Our F200 is rev limited to 8000rpm, an R500 is limited to 8500rpm, does that suffer from reliability issues?
As this thread has mentioned our open day this Sunday, can I please ask all people intending to attend to please register via our website and the link on it.

Interesting, I take it that doesnt mean that any of your options are using superchargers to make their power then? I'm assuming you are talking throttle bodies and the like to make the extra power? In Caterhams defenece, they did used to have a 150hp kit that used roller barrell throttle bodies but it wasn't great and didn't really make the quoted 150.
Shame and shame also that I have remebered about an oil leak from my daily drive so may not be able to attend also BUT thanks for your reply SKC all is clear now. Will get underneath to look at leak this evening, hopefully it's nothing. Bloody diesels, will never buy another unless it's in a truck...
